Between Wolf and Hickey I'd have to give a slight edge to Wolf.

I am picking OM, I still think we got a steal with that late 6th rounder. Hickey is a close 2nd.

I picked him last time, but I am starting to think that other prospects are ranked better. Imo, he is a Nemisz 2.0.

Hmmm. I forgot that Ramage is still on the board. While the Flames current weakness in the system is on defense, there are still a handful of intriguing defensemen left outside the top-20 that could surprise.

Ollas Mattson. He was a steal where he was picked in this draft. Still needs to work on quite a few things, but already has an NHL frame. Could be quite a nice surprise.

Ramage got sent down to the Alaska Aces, so I think his upside isn't as good as some other prospects.

I always thought he looked quite good when he was with Wisconsin. Last year was his first professional season. You may be right, but we should also be quick to consider that his struggles were part of the adjustment period. This year we will know much better for sure.

Some posters are setting a very high value on "NHL readiness."

I don't consider Wolf a prospect. He's been a pro for a while now...

Same thing I said last poll. He's big, mean and quick. All things this management is looking for in players. He is going to be given every opportunity to succeed, thus the chances for him making it are higher IMO. This management team wants Wolf to make the Flames this year.

I don't see Wolf making the Flames with the signings of Bollig and Byron.

Granlund has played 4 years of professional hockey as well. Is he a prospect?

Voted Hanowski for the 3rd poll in a row.
But I admit that I am intrigued by Ollas Mattson. Granted he's young, but I wish I knew more about his game.

Wolf is no more a prospect than Ramo, Berra or Cervenka were when we aquired them IMO

The DEL and Germany aren't exactly known for producing a lot of players. - Draisaitl was the first German to be drafted since 2007 and he plays in the CHL
- The last German to be drafted that actually became an NHL player was in 2001
- There have only been 9 German's to ever play over 200 games. Every one of them was drafted.
- There have been four undrafted German's to play in the NHL.
- Ronald Fisher is the most successful. He actually developed at the University of Calgary. He played 18 games in the NHL. He never scored a goal.
- Marcell Mueller is one of the only two undrafted German to actually develop in Germany.
- He is 6'3" 218 LBS (Wolf is 6'2" 216 LBS).
- In his last year in the DEL before being acquired he put up 53 GP 24 G 22 A 122 PIMS (Wolf put up 48 GP 14 G 26 A 152 PIMS)
- He started in the AHL but got a 3 game call up in January. He played two seasons for Toronto in the AHL before playing one season in the SEL and then returning to the DEL.
That doesn't paint a very rosy picture of Wolf's chances. The only fair comparable to Wolf is Mueller and he didn't have a successful NHL career.
That said, with only one comparable it isn't a fair sample size. Wolf might be facing long odds, but if he is successful he may have that combination of skill, toughness, and meanness that is really valuable in the bottom 9. I have Wolf, Hickey, and Mattsson really close.

^^ Solid post. I actually like Wolf a lot as a personality, but he's very unlikely to play in the NHL given the league he played for. He's got an age advantage over a lot of prospects and he was given a contract, so who knows?
