Default Summer Prospect Ranking Poll Round 23

Lots of disagreement on the Flames prospect ranking so why not poll them out through August and come up with a list that we can refer back to each summer.

Pick the top one left on the list each round.

Some pick on a mix of potential and ceiling, others just on talent ... use your own methodology.

Rank to Date
1. Monahan - 45.78% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=129540)

Went with Roy myself. A guy who slipped huge in the draft but was once talked about as a 1st rounder. He is a big body who can move the puck and I think he has the tools to be a top 4 guy. Currently our pool of D is fairly weak but if guys like Kanzig and Roy reach their potential then that changes everything

I'm sticking Harrison ...

He's not even top five for talent left on the board, but his skill set is so unique and impactful in today's NHL that he gets my vote for future importance.

He's gone from unknown to drafted to newsworthy in a month and a half and doing that at the right age (development age).

I think Culkin is a good 2nd tier prospect and he could go "Brodie" on us and move up the list in the next two seasons, or he could go "Negrin" on us and disappear. Time will tell.

Harrison is on the sharpest trajectory right now and that means a lot when you're voting for a team's 20th prospect.

Went Culkin for the "?" time in a row. I have lost count. This could be his time.

Third time for culkin. Should be his slot. Maybe a little more size is needed but he is on the cusp of making it pro. I was wondering last season if his numbers were inflated because of the team he was on but Patrick Roy seemed very high on him.

Kulak for the fourth time.

One of the better pure skaters left in the list.

Went with Roy, got a good feeling about that kid. All the tools are there hopefully he can put it together and become a top 4 Dman. Size, shot and skating just needs to get his defensive game in line. Another Brodie perhaps?

Culkin. The kid has the best shot at the NHL out of all the prospects left. That being said, it isn't a sure thing either.

Billins - AHL all-star, going to surprise a lot of Flames fans.

He could surprise but I'd say our acquisition of the smallish Russel makes his chances pretty small, to make the Flames. Good small pickup for the Heat though.

Harrison is as close to a guaranteed NHLer that you can get without an All star's offensive ability.

He's big, he's quick, and he hits everything that moves. He is Matt Martin or Cal Clutterbuck.

That said, How are Culkin and Kulak on the board still. They are better prospects than Reinhart, Ramage, Breen, Berra and Kanzig at the minimum.

Agree about Culkin and Kulak, but how exactly is Harrison even remotely close to being a guaranteed NHLer?

Went with Hanowski. Guy has played NHL games and only improved on his weaknesses this offseason.

His all round game is surprisingly good and he's very physical, but is not stupid about it. I watched both Martin and Clutterbuck when they were the same age and they have all the same attributes in terms of both physicality and thinking their game well. He also has some offensive ability, but not a ton, more or less equivalent to Reinhart in that regard.

The combination of the fact that Harrison is 6-3, very fast, extremely physical and a hard hitter, and smart in terms of positioning means that he'll likely become a good 4th liner, and has the personality to be a fan favourite. He's never going to be confused for a top line guy, but will be an important depth guy.

Teams that have been successful over the past half decade have had players that were physically imposing and hit everything. That's basically Harrison's playbook.

3 months ago no one had any idea who this guy was. Even the TSN guys had no idea. The only information anyone could find was his Facebook profile.

If he was anywhere near a guaranteed NHLer don't you think he would have been picked before the 6th round?
