Default Summer 2013 Prospect Rank Poll Round 4

Lots of disagreement on the Flames prospect ranking so why not poll them out through August and come up with a list that we can refer back to each summer.

Pick the top one left on the list each round.

Some pick on a mix of potential and ceiling, others just on talent ... use your own methodology.

Rank to Date
1. Monahan - 45.78% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=129540)
2. Baertschi - 82.12% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=129559)
3. Gaudreau - 79.58% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=129572)

Gillies for me... what he did in his rookie season in Hockey East was remarkable... essentially carried Providence on his back.

Knight gets my vote in this round. Criminally undervalued by fans on this board. He's got a ridiculous wrist shot, a deadly backhand and can dominate the faceoff dot.

Impressed the heck out of me at dev camp.

It was between Gillies and Wotherspoon for me, and i went with Gillies. As "sureloss" said in his post, he was "remarkable" last year.

First two were easy as you had two guys with the highest ceilings and likely to be top 6 in NHL at least.

Now you have guys like Gaudreau/Goalies with high ceilings but questionable if they make it versus guys with low end ceilings but likely to play some role in NHL (Wotherspoon/Bouma/Horak).

Went with Wotherspoon last time because I think he is at least a 5/6 in NHL and maybe a 4 and doubt that Gaudreau/Gillies/Jankowski ever do much at the NHL level but can see how people can be excited by the flash of Gaudreau.

I picked Gillies, the next Vezina winner for the Flames.

Gillies followed by Janko, Knight, and then Sieloff for me. I know a lot of people like Wotherspoon (I do as well) but Sieloff to me is going to have a bigger impact than Wotherspoon will.

Things must be so fun in your house ... you pick a 5/6 defenseman as your third pick and then feel the need to suggest the Flames 2nd through 5th best prospects will never amount to much. Then basically accuse those that don't agree with you of chasing flash.

Slay me!

What?

Are we not allowed to have differences of opinions on here? I thought that was the point of this exercise.

I don't accuse people of chasing flash I said that I understand why people like Gaudreau. If I thought he could bring that skill to the NHL successfully he would be my 2nd or 3rd choice. I don't think he will but don't begrudge guys that do. I think he will struggle based on his size/strength and therefore he doesn't rank high for me because I am putting more emphasis on guys that have a higher chance of making the league.

And things are a blast at my house thanks but I guess we can't report the owner of the site for useless personal attacks.

Picked Janko, but this is definitely where it gets interesting as you can make a valid argument at #4 for any of Gillies, Knight, Wotherspoon, Sieloff, Poirier and Klimchuk IMO.

Heck of a pool Feaster and Co. are building.

Gillies. EASILY.

He's big, he mobile, he's quick, and he's got a lot of talent. He took a Providence team that wasn't expecting to do much of anything and turned them into a winning team. Well deserved awards as well.

I strongly believe he'll play in the NHL.

Went Jankowski this round as I still think he has the tools to be a top 2 C in the NHL, jus needs to bulk up and round everything out a bit. May take a bit longer but he may end up one of our best down the road.

I agree with RT14 - You have to like the big centers with #1 potential.

Went with Jankowski.

For me, using likelihood of being a regular in the NHL as my main criteria, I went with Wotherspoon. I'm very excited about Gillis, Knight, Sieloff and Poirier too.

Others, and I think this is what moon is trying to say, use "upside" as a big criteria for ranking prospects, which is another interesting perspective and favors guys like Gaudreau and Jankowski.

I went with Jankowski. He still might be a ways away, but if his ceiling is as high as some say, he could be an elite centre one day.

This is where I have trouble balancing upside and likelihood of actually realizing the upside. Do you rank a boom/bust type of player with very high upside potential over another player with low upside, but a high probability of making the show?
