Summer 2014 Prospect Ranking Poll Rd1
With a draft adding players to the Flames prospect depth, and a development camp to help sort some of these players out, it's time to relaunch the annual prospect ranking poll!
Last year's list came in really handy when the Flames traded two of their list to the Oilers in the Smid trade. It gave Calgary fans some concrete proof of their thoughts on the players in that deal, and the ability to point to their worth when Oiler fans came a calling.
With that said, here is round one of the 2014 poll.
Let me know if I've missed any players. As with last year their will be debate as to who should be included and who shouldn't. I prefer to keep it simple ... are they graduated or not? Monahan is. Baertschi isn't.

Bennett over Gaudreau.
While Gaudreau was the more impressive player at development camp, and looks closer to being NHL-ready, he is also 3 years older than Sam. Imagine how good Bennett would look at our development camp if he were to attend it 3 years from now (I don't see that happening).

Gaudreau for me. He has continously shown his ability to excel, regardless of the level of the players playing against him. Highest potential of the prospects on the list IMO

I went with Bennett for the same reason The Fonz did (Bennett being 3 years younger) but also that they're different players. It looks like Bennett will be a much more complete player. Gaudreau will be an amazing player but with his size, he will be more of an all offense player while Bennett will be more of a Gilmour in his prime.
How amazing is it that we can even have this discussion now! The future looks pretty good for the Flames at this point.

I went with Gaudreau today. I don't know what it is but I have a feeling is really going to be a special player. He is equivalent to a top first rounder IMO. Bennett is really intriguing and honestly is a 1a/1b situation. They are interchangeable.

Probably could have had this as a 2 man vote as hard to see how it isn't Bennett vs. Gaudreau.
Bennett seems to have a higher ceiling with a much higher floor as well so he is the easy pick for me but I knw the legend of Gaudreau is pretty big for many so I can see him getting a ton of votes.

Gaudreau, all day baby.
Crazy to think that the highest calgary flames draft pick ever was just selected and he's still a distant second.

As with others, it is close for me between Gaudreau/Bennett. Went with Gaudreau by a slight margin.

I see this poll as who is the best prospect today, not which prospect has the highest ceiling. Since Gaudreau is still considered a prospect he's definitely the number 1 choice. Could be the best Flames player by seasons end..

It pained me, but I went with Bennett over Gaudreau because he has a better overall game and I rate centers a little higher than wingers.

Gaudreau, I think his level of skill and vision make him a really exciting and dynamic future flames. I think Bennett will be very good, but never the wow factor that Gaudreau if he can stay healthy will bring.

I picked Bennett over Gaudreau. He wasn't outstanding at development camp. He looked like he was he was trying to fit in with the faster pace but he's still has the most potential.
I'm still not completely sold that Gaudreau's game will translate in the NHL.

I imagine it will be Gaudreau, Bennett, Baertschi as the top 3.
