Lots of disagreement on the Flames prospect ranking so why not poll them out through August and come up with a list that we can refer back to each summer.

Pick the top one left on the list each round.

Some pick on a mix of potential and ceiling, others just on talent ... use your own methodology.

Went with Horak again simply because I think he's already at where Klimchuk/Poirier project to be.

Went with Poirier. Extremely fast, feisty, great hands, hockey sense, and some two-way ability.

I'll go for Klimchuk next.

I think I'll be voting Granlund the next few rounds. He should fill one of the next three spots.

Would have liked to have seen the last one go down to a vote-off between Poirier and Knight. I think the people voting Klimchuck would have shifted to Poirier, putting him ahead.

It came down to Poirier, Klimchuk, and Granlund for me. Very close call, but Poirier takes it this round.

Assuming his knees are back to 100%, I think Bouma is being forgotten by most posters here. The new draftees are getting all the attention for having 'high offensive ceilings', but successful teams aren't all about scoring and I believe Bouma has a solid career in Calgary's bottom 6 (with spot duty on 2nd line) coming which in my eyes makes him a better prospect than the riskier picks such as Klimchuck, Poirier, etc. Bouma is already proven NHL ready and will have a bigger role than people think once the main camp starts and we're comparing men with men.

Hmm, I dunno about that. I like Horak, but I've never seen his ceiling to be much higher than an average 2nd liner in the NHL. If both Klimchuk/Poirier only end up where Horak is now, I would consider them to be disappointments.

Lots of difficult choices but went with Culkin. There was even talk during prospect camp that he might get offered a contract and get a chance to make the big club because he plays such a steady game.

I think anytime two recent first round picks still haven't gone and you're on round 9 you can't say the new draftees are getting all the attention for high offensive ceilings.

I think it comes more down to projection, and many aren't putting bottom roster players in their top then.

I like Bouma and I hope he recovers. The Flames need sand paper, and he'll help if he has. But he's not a top ten prospect because he projects at best to be an energy player on the third line.

Poirier was drafted higher, albeit by a small margin and was invited to the World Junior Camp. People that know more than me consider Poirier the better player so why should I disagree?

Saying that, Klimchuk will probably be my vote next round.

I agree.

Although, I don't know if I'd read too much into the Team Canada invite. Poirier is a 1994 birth, so he isn't eligible for the World Juniors beyond this year. Klimchuk is a 1995 birth, so he can play next year too. I don't know how much that plays into the decision of who to invite (and they obviously make exceptions for guys like Reinhart and McDavid), but I'm sure it's at least a small factor.

I changed my vote to Horak this go round. He's not getting much respect for already being an NHLer, albeit one with limited upside. Top 6 guy at best, Top 9 guy realistically. My two cents.

That's it though. Horak is already a third liner who might one day become a second liner. Poirier and Klimchuk have both been projected to be third liners with 2nd liner as their ceilings. To me it makes no sense to put those two ahead of Horak when he has accomplished already what the other two some day hope to be.

Voted Poirier. With his game-breaking speed, gritty play and smarts, I really see him as a 'can't miss prospect'. In what capacity he ends up making it in is debatable, but I think he has all the tools to at least be a solid 3-4th liner with great PK abilities (though if he develops, he of course could have top 6 potential).
