Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2017 - Round 30

It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaack

Calgarypuck's 5th Annual Prospect Ranking Poll Series

Here are the last 5 years for a quick glance ...
Prospect Rankings
2013 - http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...ospect+Ranking
2014 - http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...highlight=poll

Happy voting!

Who will join Sean Monahan, Johnny Gaudreau, Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk as the top prospect. Previous four have gone straight to the show.

He still could

This round went Mattson. Good size, plays centre. Still lots of time for him to blossom.

I know nothing of the guys remaining. Went with Mattson based on some comments from the last poll on the kid.

Going with Pollock. Rough first year of pro but still time to rebound

I've never heard of half of these guys and the ones I do know are way past their prime.

Went with Karankhoohaw

Would have voted him way higher if he didn't go back to Russia

Mattson has more upside (a 4C or even 3C) than Caroll (a 4RW or even 3RW). For example it's the difference between Matt Stajan and Alex Chiasson.

I also like Sveningson, Karnaukhov, Rafikov

Carroll because he was entertaining to watch in Victoria.

I'll have a soft spot for Carroll because of his messy "play for the Calgary Flames" kid-scrawl in response to the grade school profile question "My Dream is to one day..."

Sveniiningsson>Pollock>Karnaukhov>Rafikov>Mattson> Schneider>Carroll

I've never seen anything in Carroll other than being big and tough, which we have other guys who can play that role. I hope I am wrong obviously since he's one of our prospects but even number 30 I feel is too high for him

It’s interesting how spread out the votes are at this point. Honestly, I don’t think anybody can say they’ve intently watched the majority of these players in the last few years. You never know who is going to be the next Jooris.

Rafikov is the most intriguing guy on this list to me. It looks like he finally established himself in the KHL last year. If I understand correctly, the Flames have his rights until he is 27. At some point, Brodie/Stone/Hamonic will move on. It is a pipe dream, but getting Rafikov on a cheap 1 year deal might be a good value stopgap for the Flames at that time.

The odds of him ever coming over to the NHL are slim, but if he does continue to develop, I think his value to the Flames is higher than anyone else left on the list.

At this point, pretty much none of them have a chance of making it and being an impact player, so there's little to choose between them.
