It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaack

Calgarypuck's 5th Annual Prospect Ranking Poll Series

Here are the last 5 years for a quick glance ...

Happy voting!

Hathaway. Already shown the effect that his energy game has on the team.

Klimchuk for me, although I have a feeling (based on absolutely nothing) that Wotherspoon will surprise in camp.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Rittich again. I'm going based on reports that he was the second best player on the farm last year. He had better numbers than Gillies, who went #6. I'm not saying he should be ranked ahead of Gillies, but I think he's already fallen too far.

I really want to go with Rittich but the stings of past Goalie prospects keeps making me look past him. Went with Matthew Phillips. Has done everything you would want him to do after getting drafted including an upcoming invite to the World Junior Camp.

Agreed, but he hasn't fallen much farther than he should have IMO. Top 10 maybe, but not much higher. We have a lot of promising young players to rank here.

For the record I went with Rittich as well.

The fact that Poirier is getting substantially more votes than Shinkaruk and Klimchuk is interesting.

It's pretty much based on rookie camp this year I think. He was the best player out there by all accounts. Plus he's a RW, bigger than those two, and has the (potential) redemption story.

To me it's all about if he puts past demons aside, he is back to having great potential. If the substance abuse thing wasn't an issue, those other guys would be way ahead for sure.

Also, with the rehab stint becoming public, the regression he had can be explained, and we have a guy in Ferland who has successfully bounced back as a comparable.

I am rooting for Poirier, and I think he could be a good 3rd line RW.

I went with Phillips, due to his high upside - he is another guy with a comparable (Gaudreau, later pick, small and skilled). I don't think he will necessarily be another Gaudreau (first line LW), but his upside is a skilled top 6 winger, just has a lower floor.

I really think Poirier will have a good season and get some NHL games in this year.

I went Rittich ....

wasn't ready to move him past Gillies after one AHL season, but said season was good enough to get him a look here.

Klimchuk, Poirier, Phillips, Shinkaruk are all working off an issue of some sort, Rittich just needs to keep on keeping on.

Poirier has all the tools. Size, skating, NHL level shot. When you watch him, you wonder why he isn't putting up points and dominating.

With Klimchuk and Shinkaruk, it is the opposite, neither are particularly big, they are decent but not great skaters, decent but not great shooters. You watch them and you aren't really impressed but they do put up points.
