Could not agree more. Flames won the cup on May 25. Hockey should be done by then.
The NHL regular season should start no later than the third week of September.
NFL is well underway by then. All other hockey leagues are also in full swing by then. Everyone pretty much hates the length of the pre season and is chomping at the bit to get going.

Agreed, wanting the Oilers to lose so bad keeps me invested a bit...if it was Carolina/Dallas or something I would be long out.
Heck I'm leaving the country next week, I hope the Panthers can end it soon I wouldn't even be watching a potential game 7

Not going to happen. With the all star game Olympics and the 4 team World Cup and likely adding 2 more games we will keep seeing this. The pa wants it and as much time off for players. You would need to schedule more back to back games. It won’t fly.
They also need to stay in the news cycle as long as possible like the NBA. Finals, draft, and free agency. The NBA has a summer league for prospects.
It’s like what the NFL does trying to be in the news every month.

It seems insane because you might have dementia. Typically the NHL regular season does start before Thanksgiving weekend, more often than not

Depending on when thanksgiving is. Lately it seems like there haven't been games, at least not on that monday.
Edit: Yeah, 4 of the last 5 seasons Canadian Thankgivings came before the regular season.
Looks like you're the one with the foggy memory, ya old grouch.

Yes, other pro sports heavily promote star players. In basketball. all the media does is fawn over star players. LeBron James has 53 million followers on X. For 15 years you couldn't turn on an NFL broadcast or analysis and not hear someone praising Tom Brady. Now the attention has shifted to Mahomes and Josh Allen.
The NHL is actually criticized for not promoting its players enough. Part of it is the culture of hockey tends to be more all-for-one. Part of it is star NHL players are often boring beyond belief. Matthew Tkachuck has been the biggest boon to promoting the NHL in decades.

The hockey in this final is so good. But I hate watching the grease pigs and half of our last rebuilt core transplanted to a sun belt team contesting for the Cup.
Every time I start to enjoy it as a neutral, the darkness returns with this realization.

That whole fourth line with Nosek, Gadjovich and Greer has been very good and have great chemistry. Boqvist isn't really built for the playoffs imo.

Oilers changed their d pairings. Nurse with cross eyes. Ekholm and Klinburg. Deepest blue line in the league.
