Regher played on a broken foot. Donovan played game 7 on an injured knee.
Lydman played but I feel like he felt pressured by Sutter he didn’t seem happy with him.

I would argue the league would want its best player to win a cup.
I always felt the refs favored the Penguins with Crosby and I feel the same with the Oilers and McDavid.

I don't like the 2 day break but back to back games would probably be a no go for the finals. Back to back in round 1 should be a given and I'd even argue for round 1 being best of 5 in order to get the playoffs wrapped up in May or the first few days of June.

Crosby was marketable and people know Pittsburgh.
Most people don’t know some random ####hole in Canada named Edmonton?

Having the best player in the world at that time, and being in Pittsburgh did more good to grow the game in the states, than boring McDavid does in a city that more than likely half of Americans have never heard of.
If McDavid had more of PK Subban personality though - one you could leverage through social media especially - then maybe he would be big enough of a factor to bring in some interest from the general hockey fan down south.
I do share the opinion that hockey has a personality problem with their superstars. Majority of them aren't interesting enough to market off of. McDavid is obviously great, but he is not in a complete level above everyone else that watching him is a spectacle for the casual viewer. He ain't a Tiger Woods, a Michael Jordan, or even a Patrick Mahomes in regards of making highlights on a regular that makes you go 'how did he do that!?'. So in lieu of that, what's gonna keep the NHL in peoples mind and mouths when the games aren't being played?
I think the league needs more Austin Matthews and Matthew Tkachuks' to draw in more interest. Players that are All-Stars with personality. Swagger is sellable.

I agree but the players don't, but even moving everything up a week would be less painful.

I'm pretty confident that if he left the Oilers would be called differently and those flops that Pissy tricks the refs into calling wouldn't be as effective.

Why did you even care in the first place? This is their third year in a row in the cup final. You're breaking point should've been years ago.

Both teams have to go through it though, I don't see a problem there. Fair for both sides. The guys will compete either way. First round could be best of five, agree.

Chris Simon was injured in game three vs the Canucks, missed the rest of that series and the entire 2nd round against Detroit. He rode the left side of Iginla's line occasionally in the final two rounds and was an important player that run.
Don't recall ever reading about Lydman being unhappy or pressure from the coaching staff. The latter wouldn't surprise me however.
Dave Lowry returning late in the Detroit series was important, he hadn't played since January and despite not scoring a single point in the post seasons he had a positive impact on the ice.

Having Canadian Thanksgiving without NHL regular season games yet is always insane to me.
It should always start in september, with players gathering in their respective cities in mid-late August.

I wonder if the Oilers will get more penalties tomorrow for the first time in the series or if it will be the cats again.
