I thought trading injured players was ok as long as the receiving team is ok with the medical?

The only way it makes sense to me is if Vladar goes the other way in that trade and we also trade Markstrom somewhere else. Then we roll with our new goalie and Wolf next year.

For sure. I just assumed Vladar would be #1A with Markstrom gone.

Not me just sitting here looking at what goalies have no trade clauses...

Jarry seems to be the one that would make the most sense from an age / contract perspective.
Maybe Ullmark...is that why Nonis has been watching Boston?

What a way to #### block Wolf. Get rid of the vet in front of him only to add another vet in front of him

maybe Vlader goes back to Boston? Ullmark with one more year on his deal and could be the safety net for Wolf.
you've convinced me!

The Devils will have a cap crunch two years from now, that's why they are looking for retention.
I don't feel that the cap is an issue this year or next year. The only guys who really need deals next season are Mercer who could be bridged and Toffoli who needs to decide if he wants to win or go after teh money.
Markstrom 25% retained for Holtz + 2nd is nutso on the low side.
Markstrom ??% retained for Holtz + Sigenthaler + 1st + 2nd is equally nutso the other way. If that deal was on the table there had to be another piece going to Jersey, those two reported deals are too far apart.
Hopefully the deal is somewhere in the middle with the Flames eating ~$2M of his salary.

To be clear I'm less intrigued by the Flames interest in this goalie, but more interesting in what alternative options the Devils might have to Markstrom.

Do you see the Bruins moving a goalie at the TDL?
I could see them doing something after the season, but don't see a compelling reason why the Bruins would do something now unless the Devils overpay.

I don't really see this cap crunch two years from now. You mean Luke Hughes? I could be missing what you mean.
Anyway, I don't see a million or two of Markstrom being retained as being a fulcrum point for whether they can stay under the cap or not.

One of those vets is considerably easier to leap frog than the other. Wolf is a fantastic prospect but also hasn't shown anything that would make him deserving of being gifted the #1 spot. He's going to have to outplay some competition no matter what. If can't outplay Vladar and Vanacek, he's probably not ready to be the #1 goalie.

People have been whipped into a frenzy of expectations. Rewind 5 months and everyone here would be doing backflips at that potential return. Short memories!

List of goalies with NTC
Gibson ANA
Ullmark BOS
Andersen CAR
Mrazek CHI
Merzlikins CLB
Reimer DET
Cambbell EDM (LOL) No
Talbot LAK
Allen MTL
Varlomov NYI
Shesterkin NYR
Quick NYR
Petersen PHI
Jarry PIT
Grubauer SEA
Driedger SEA
Binnington STL
Murray TML
Lehner VGK
Hill VGK
Kuemper WSH
Based on who would fit both CGY and NJD I'd say it boils down to Allen, Quick, Driedger, Mrazek.
Quick plays a flashy game but has been around the block and seems like could be a decent mentor to Wolf and also give Jersey a shot in the arm for the year.
Too much free time on CapFriendly. Make of it what you will. Personally Don't see Conroy spending assets to acquire a goalie with lots of term with Wolf/Vladar and other team needs.
