Jesus Christ guys, we're talking about one of the best goalies in the league here, not Brian Elliott.
If he ends up being one of the highest paid guys on the team, well, he should be
Also, some guy used the word 'monster', so what? We don't know what he meant by that. His last deal was 3 years, $11M. A $25-30M contract, is a monster compared to that
Great that you think he's infallible, and right on the money with all things that aren't yet knowable. And sorry that the fact that I don't agree with him here upsets you.
No need to be so defensive.
You said McKenzie was wrong then made your own speculations. Sorry if I missed it but I didn't see you add anything that wasn't just purely anecdotal itself.
McKenzie didn't say anything was 100% guaranteed to happen. He certainly didn't say the the final deal would be 6x7. He said it could be. He didn't say that it would be or that it was even heading in that direction.
As I previously said he is simply passing on the numbers he is getting from his sources. This is what Markstrom is looking for, this is what Calgary is willing to do, it looks like it will get done and if it gets done this is the range a final deal will probably fall in.
I don't think he's infallible, I just don't think he said anything that could be construed as "wrong".
Hall and Mangiapane could be cheaper, but still, there would have to be room for other bodies.
I feel the Flames could get rid of Derek Ryan's contract fairly easy. Useful player but one that I think was pushed down the lineup in Calgary. He'd fit on many teams 3rd line centre slot.
I disagree, if we are talking Bobrovsky money walk away. The guy is 31 years old and if gets handed anything over a 8 AAV for 6-7 years its a bad deal. This team has more issues than just goaltending.
I don't disagree with your premise, but we're not talking about Bobrovsky money
This is literally the biggest FA signing of Trelivings career. He better go over this pig with a fine toothed comb and a buffering wheel to get it right.
Brian Elliott at the time we traded for him and Jacob Markstrom now look very similar from an advanced stats perspective.
How about from a “does a team want this guy as their starter” perspective? Because Elliot was always a tandem guy, was in St. Louis, was brought in to be, and continues to be.
Okay. Doesn’t change the fact Holtby isn’t considered a #1 goalie. Let alone one of the best in the league like Markstrom is.
Clear #2 goalie on the FA list. Next best option. And after that, then next 4 best goalies are now gone as well. All substantially cheaper. Either way, this needs to get done. There's other business that needs tending to.
Tre is trying to improve the team by adding a bonafide #1 goaltender. I am surprised how many people seem to be against this.
What's more surprising is the list of people saying walk away are also some of the same people who routinely criticize Tre for not fixing our Goalie problem...
It's ok to ardently take a side, but if so stick to it!
