It's a long season folks. Bad games are going to happen. Bad runs are going to happen. This won't be the last time.
This is still a good team with a good goalie and elite first line right now. Breathe. Just breathe.
|
The first line and Mike Smith are the only good things about the Flames right now, their defense is terrible and secondary scoring is non-existant. Put that together and that makes a decidedly average team, not good. There are far too many weaknesses with the club right now to think they're good

Calgary needs a better 4th line if they want to roll their lines...to be fair though line 2 was terrible tonight so what do you do?

Kulak was getting a bit too comfy out there.

I disagree it's Kulak and Stone that cost the team this game when Brodie alone had 2 turnovers resulted in 2 goals against.

After watching that game, I feel for Gulutzan and coaches in general. I would have lost my mind behind that bench.

That was a frustrating game. Lots of bad bounces and bad giveaways.

At some point, looking good means jack all. 4th liners look good too and also don't score. Which is where he is headed.

I agree man. I'd really like to see some line juggling, outside the top line of course. The 3M line has been fine, but quiet lately. You can just feel the Janko line is on the cusp of doing something awesome, Jagr had a good night I thought. The 4th line is a tire fire. I'd like to see some shuffle, but GG ain't gonna vary when we are an above .500 team.

Might be a pretty good wake up call for the blueliners.
Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Positives, we still could have had this one despite all that.
Negatives, we really should have had this one with that late lead. At least get a damned point.

Flames made it FAR too easy for Dallas to win. The Flames play hard up front and soft in back. Doesn't work.

There’s precisely a 0.000001% chance of a defenseman being traded right now. You trade Hamilton and pair Gio with Brodie that means Bartkowski slots back in to keep lefty/righty on the bottom 2 pairs. You trade Brodie and you need a lefty to replace him to again keep the lefty/right intact, meaning Bartkowski draws in again. Honestly, the best case to get Andersson in and keep Bartkowski out is to trade Stone or Hamonic.
Gio-Hamilton
Brodie-Hamonic/Stone
Kulak-Andersson
But again, no trades a comin.’ The D needs to take a hard look at themselves and fix this themselves.

Almost all games this season should have been a wake up call for the blueliners...

I guess there's no chance that BT will take GG out to the woodshed and knock some sense into him about his line combos and use of the 4th line?

I really really hate simple mistakes. Forced errors I can deal. The odd miss, they happen. An opposing team making great plays that are tough to defend, sure.
But unforced turnover after unforced turnover gave the game away. Drives me nuts.

It pisses me off no one went after Benn. This team is so soft they have no character.

That's not the point. The point is that people here are starting to give Smith the mandate to call out the team after he did it last game, and I believe it would be much better for him to to worry about himself especially after letting five goals in. Of course you can't hang all five on him, perhaps not a single one of them depending on how you look at it, and neither could you hang all of Lacks goals against on him even of they got him to the AHL. With that said, five against will never be good enough. This game was bad defensively, but it sure was no goaltending clinic either.

To be fair, Bennett could have had a helper or two if jagr managed to finish on a few of his chances tonight.
We gotta be patient with the kid. Heck, look at couturier as another example of skill flourishing after some patient years. He's looking better, and getting /creating chances.

Yeah, Jagr looks better then Bennet, and Bennett best chances these last ga,es have been because of Jagr. Jagr unlucky to score and looks fully engaged with puck battles, finding the open space. Janko looks equal to Bennet and that’s not a compliment to Sam.
Tkachuk is the one that’s dropped off a bit. Not sure if pairing him with Jagr will do the trick, as who moves to line two and means Bennett on the 4th line.
I think they’ve got to get someone that Jagr can feed and who can feed Jagr.
Thankfully for the Flames Ferland has found his touch the last two weeks from last year on the top line, so Jagr back on the top line before injury isn’t an option again yet.
