They were very good as a pairing. In the discussion for sure, but not sure they crack the top 6.
Let's see:
Suter and McCrimmon were the best pairing in hockey in 87-88. 2nd team all stars for the league, as a pairing
MacInnis Musil saw MacInnis hit the 100 point plateau and put up one of the best seasons ever by a Flame. Have to acknowledge that.
Phaneuf and Hamrlik: This pairing saw Dion come 2nd in Norris voting that season. Dominant physically as a pairing and a danger to attack offensively.
I think they get the nod as the third pairing. The only other pairing I could see bumping them would be the Giordano Brodie pairing from 2 years ago. I think that pairing is ahead of Regehr and Leopold as well.
