Brad McCrimmon played 1222 games and averaged about +30 every season. He's got my vote again. Brodie next time.

McCrimmon was the best shut down defenceman we've ever had, including Regehr.

I picked Macoun again. He was just one of those players that I had an attachment to. But I agree that McCrimmon was a beast and IMO, it was close between them.
If McCrimmon loses this round though, I will change my vote to him just tough get him through. It's tough see both Regehr and Housley ahead of him.

Dion Phaneuf was pretty dominant for the Flames when he was here. He gets my vote.

Macoun over Sarge simply based on tenure. If Sarge had as many games as Macoun did with the Flames, he'd probably be in the top 3 or 4.

Sarge. Too soon for Brodie. Maybe after Macoun.

I don't think people actually appreciate yet how good Brodie is. This shouldn't actually be close.

Who should I add for the next poll? I'm thinking:
Denis Gauthier
Cory Sarich
Todd Simpson
Ric Nattress
Anyone else?

I think Phaneuf should have more votes. People forget how good he was his 1st few years. He even finished 2nd in Norris voting one year.
Brodie nor Giordano have done that.

Reading the Edmonton ING thread it reminded me of the lockout season where the Oilers farm team was loaded. Shultz being a main star. Anyways one of the networks decided to televise their game against Abbotsford and of course it was all about the young Oilers except they mentioned Brodie and wanted to see him rush the puck. Well Shultz was all over the ice while I don't think Brodie went pass centre ice 5 on 5 the whole game and according to the broadcasters was disappointing. It's just an example of learning to play defence the way it's supposed to be played, as Brodie did. Now that he's got that down, he can expand his game again. Shultz never did learn that lesson.
This is just another reason I like Brodie, he's solid on defence and is often a game changer. Yeah he's underrated by the league and even by our fans.

But how many games with Flames? 200-300?
Not enough to be considered this high.

I thought the point here was to rank the best defencemen who ever played for the Flames. In my language, at least, ‘best’ is not a word for a length of time.

I do think games played for an organization is a consideration. But Sarge played a lot of great hockey for Calgary. More than Brodie so far IMO.
