The scary thing for Canuck fans is that after Jones goal, it was all Calgary. The Flames looked better in that 3rd period than they did against the Kings or Coyotes to close out the regular season, they clearly have another gear and finally shifted to it late in that period. The Canucks haven't had that extra gear in a long time, can they finally find it in time to make a difference?

@PR_NHL: Kris Russell's goal at 19:30 of the 3rd period is the latest GWG in @NHLFlames playoff history. #StanleyCup #VANvsCGY http://t.co/yNjRIweasO

The broadcast mentioned Monahan took some hard hits in that LA game, all thanks to... Robyn Regher

What a great game to watch! Ferland and Bennett had me pinching myself all night and I didn't even realize Mason Raymond wasn't even playing. Speaking of Raymond, that has to sting being a healthy scratch against your old team in the playoffs.

Darcy's in Victoria was great to watch the game, way more flame fans than canucks, I counted at least 5 flame jerseys to 1, even a worker there was for the flames. Great game.

Pretty good game. Jonas Hiller was spectacular especially in the first period when the Flames looked a little bit off in the first period. As soon as they get their legs in the 2nd period, the whole team kind of outplay the Canucks. Canucks only goal was a fluke but that didn't discourage the Flames. The first line was invinsible in the first against the Sedin line but Coach Desjardin made a big mistake in lining up the Horvat line and another line against team. That's when the first line started getting chances. Love the Jones-Stajan-Ferland line. Canucks don't have any answer to them. Difference between the Flames and Canucks tonight was no matter lines you put for the Flames, they seems to be playing the same. Ferland's confidence is at all-time high right now. Aside from the dumb penalty, he was awesome tonight. I can just imagine Yannick Weber and Kevin Bieksa having nightmares tonight. Ferland was just hitting them every chance he gets. Sam Bennett. Very impressive to see an 18 year old playing like a veteran out there. Their line could have score a few goals tonight if it wasn't for Eddie Lack. He look poised and I don't think he is even nervous out there. Good for him and I hope he gets better every game. Hartley is such a genius in inserting him in the lineup. What a night for Calgarians!! Flames won and Calgary Hitmen just extended their lead to 3-1 series. Hope for another great night on Friday night.

Great win! Took some time to get adjusted but Hiller was there to help out

I just can't stand Hughson if the canucks are involved. He is a good play-by-play announcer but his homerism is too much. Comparable Flames plays generate zero enthusiasm from him and astute plays by the Flames are merely the canucks not being themselves

TSN showed the USA network highlights and Cuthbert was calling the game... now that gentleman has to be the best objective play by play in the biz

Watching the Flames score with 29 seconds left to take a 1-0 series lead against the Canucks in my first ever playoff game: Priceless

What a game. After the Canucks scored I was pretty annoyed for the rest of the second. I had a feeling though they would turn it up in the third and sure enough they did. I tried not to be very vocal in case there were some ######bags in my section but when Russell scored it was hard not to get excited. I didn't like Horvat's goal but Hiller was awesome.

I thought about trying to get a ticket for game 2 but I might just end up watching at home. I found the fans in my section really whiny and I don't think I want to sit 2 1/2 hours through that again. Every time a Flame hit a Canuck they would whine for a penalty. I didn't think the officiating was good either but body contact is allowed in hockey and the Canucks had plenty of powerplays. It was pretty funny though when the guy beside was sitting there depressed like they had just lost the series.

Just got back from the game. There were a TON of Flames fans there tonight. How loud was it on the TV when the Flames scored 'cause it definitely seemed loud where I was sitting.

Eat it Nucks!

Just landed in Honolulu, and missed the entire game...

So sweet to report this on a plane full of trash talking canucks fans...

Hiller deserves a lot of credit here. I thought he was the Flames best player by far.

It should be. The owner is from Calgary and is a huge Flames fan. It is the Victoria unofficial ( for legal reasons obviously)Flames pub. If It was a Tall lanky dude curly(ish) hair in his mid 30's with the Jersey on He is the owner.

The Garraicks Head across from The Irish times is the Senators pub and Fifth Street Bar and grill is a Leafs bar.

Checking in from Kazakhstan, I think I just saw Borat parading down the street in his Flames jersey! What a win. This team has built its identity and they continue with it in the playoffs. No quit and a strong third. They just believe in each other and the game they play.

Anyway, too soon to get cocky, but if you're looking for good signs, there were plenty in this game. Looking forward to Game 2!

that's also 7 in a row lost at home
So...over the course of 1 game, our boys have managed as many wins as the much more experienced Canucks over the span of four years.

Thats a lot of play-off 'experience' I'm glad our boys don't have.
