Flames take more penalties than usual, got just one powerplay of their own, had their big line held off the scoresheet completely and held in check much of the game. . . .

And still won game 1.

That bodes well for the rest of the series.

I agree with all of the accolades thrown at Bennett, Ferland, Russell, etc., so will focus on Engelland -20 minutes, 4 hits, 5 blocks, 2:46 of PK time. . . . The guy continues to be a revelation. He's gone from a guy who I worried about being out against other teams' 3rd lines, to a guy I'm comfortable having out against the Sedins.

I didn't have kids in '04, and was informed tonight that my post-goal celebration might be a bit loud for a sleeping 11 year old.

So I might just let him stay up for the rest of the series.

Just awesome game. So awesome. Monahans line really started to look better as the game went on. Bennett and Backlunds line was fantastic as well. Was really impressed with Bennett. A really fun game to watch, tons of action and not too many whistles.

NHL officials miss stuff all the time. I'm sure one will go against us at some point.

Who cares? The Canucks also should have been penalized a few more times. These things tend to even out throughout the course of a series...

You can't call a goal back because of a missed high stick. The play should have been blown dead sure, but if the officials miss it and play continues anything that happens after is completely legit

When they take back the several missed interference calls along the boards and the missed JH high stick they can take back the Jones one.

Seems fair.

Flames also might have scored on the double minor for high sticking JG

those guys are just trying to get attention since they have no hockey to broadcast

Just pure stupid speculation on that "Missed highstick".. If it didn't happen, let it be.

everyone wants to hug Sam

Ryan Leslie @ryanleslie73
Watched Matt Stajan walk over to Sam Bennett and give him a big hug after the game.

We were essentially carried by our depth and our young players, which is awesome

Somewhat worried about our first line. Hudler is quite obviously hurt, and Monahan doesn't seem 100% either. They were really struggling especially early on. I really hope those injuries are something that can heal on their own...

I disagree that Bennett and Colborne carried Backlund. His role might have been less notable, but he was an important piece in that line. Ferland-Stajan-Jones was clicking too. These two lines were our best tonight.

The Canucks skated much better than I expected, but clearly couldn't keep up in the 3rd. As the series gets longer I expect the our conditioning to start making a difference. Fantastic to win the first.

Still, they'll make it hard on us.

Canucks clearly had their chances and could have won this game. The Sedin line was giving me heart attacks. While their defense isn't that great in their own zone, they're good at breaking up passes through the middle and creating turnovers, and that's really dangerous for our play style. Lack was also pretty good.

Big time. Give the guy a decent partner and he's a top 4 D. He's stepped up in a big way

TSN's highlights have the Cuthbert calls. It just feels so much better to hear him rather than the depressed crybaby.
