AWESOME WIN!
I'm so pumped to go to the game on Friday, first playoff game since 2004.
A few things I noticed, Ferland was FAST! Knew he hit a lot but he looked like he had some speed there too, amazing game for him. Destroying everybody and then quickly shifting off.
Bennett was great (bye bye Raymond 2015/2016 season), Johnny came on in the 3rd so he might have figured it out now. Worried about Monahan though.
I cannot wait till AC gets us a gif of the complete Colborne shift leading up to the goal, wink wink.
Drunk off wine so I'm sleepy now, can't wait to spend 7 hours on CP tomorrow reading about the game.

Agreed
Also, love the comparison before, Ferland = Ron Stern kind of player

After Ferland took that penalty, you just knew he'd learn from it and respond positively. No doubt he was spoken to by Hartley and no doubt he took it in. That is the thing about this team and why it is developing and progressing so quickly.
Been spending some time in the HFVancouver forums and I was being civil. Ended up saying this yesterday.

The defense is weird here. Obviously losing Gio hurt but putting Engellend with Brodie somehow solved the third line problem. Engellend and Diaz/Smid/Potter were a hot mess that hurt me to watch. Might be confidence I don't know, but allowing Engellend to play as a stay at home with Brodie dealing with most of the passing and offense has allowed him to find a comfort zone. Every once in a while he throws up a terrible give away but for the most part he's playing a solid positional game. Shlemko and Diaz(Hurt too, sucks he was playing well) have been a gigantic upgrade on the 3rd pairing. Having Brody on the 2nd line has also allowed Hartley to double shift him as necessary to fill holes when they comes. So ya, the Brodie/Gio line isn't as good but the 3rd line is way better so it has almost evened out. I thought we were done when Gio went down.
The Ferland/Stajan/Jones line is the x factor for us. Last 20 games they've been our second best line. Very sound defensively and are our most physical line. I wouldn't be surprised if they get put out there against your second line. Stajan has been playing the best hockey he's played in years lately. I hope Bennett plays over Raymond. He can't cycle worth a damn. If the Stajan line can take over some defensive responsibility. A Bennett/Backlund/Colbourne line can put up points.
Losing Bouma is a huge loss for us but thankfully Jooris is healthy now. I'm hoping Byron gets back because Jooris/Granlund/Byron would be our fastest line. Most likely Shore is in for Byron though. Not really expecting to much from that line. Jooris is always a threat with his speed but Granlund hasn't done much lately.
So then we have Bollig and Raymond on the bench to replace whoever isn't working. Shore and Granlund are probably the biggest threat to get sat.
Little drunk, so forgive me for being cocky but I usually don't nail it on the head like that
Canucks board: Willie is to blame for raising to match lines and not playing Sedins enough. Bieksa is terrible. Sbisa either is or isn't terrible. The Sedins can't finish. They need to call up Sven - he is a saviour ( this was actually said).

Just going to spew my random thoughts that I'm sure have been said by others already.
-Bennett, best forward for much of the night, can't believe this good this fast. Gave the Flames a really 2nd line!
- Colborne just keeps getting better and better and very underrated by many. Type of player we need because we don't have many of the. With his size and ability to cycle. Helps give the team a different style of attack and worked well with Bennett.
- Brodie, looked great in his first playoff action.
- Ferland, again the type of player we need and keeps getting better, gives us a physical presence, and helps give us a real third line. Great bounce back of the early mistake. Thought he was our 2nd best player.
- our first line, looked really slow to start, especially Mono. But really started to get better late, especially Johnny. Very encouraging that they didn't play their best and we still won.
- Hiller, gave us a solid playoff performance.
- Hartley...... What to say, just seems to know who to play, when to play the and what each guy needs, it's crazy.
Great start, worst case we come home tied. Good first game and I think they have a lot more they can give.
Everything's been said, although I will add that the biggest and best sign for Flames fans was this team starting to play like normal in the third period. They really started to own the game in the last 20 minutes.
It's like all the kids thought, "Oh, so that's what playoff hockey's like." Then they went out and did their thang.
I'm not sleeping tonight. There's no way.
