I think it's legit

Jason Botchford has said that at the draft Detroit offered Tatar, Sheahan, and Smith for Edler

so it's not like they thought this kind of breakout was likely for the two this year, and they really wanted a defenseman

Fair enough! I remembered it being reported that there was a 2nd included with whatever Detroit had offered. So that was an assumption on my part.

My bad!

This has probably been said a couple dozen times but who knows if Nyquist or Tatar make the same progress under our organization.

Why? at the time of the trade it would have been an awful trade and 99% of people on CP would have agreed.

If Burke was concerned about the returns Feaster got in trades, it will be interesting to see what he gets for Cammalleri.

Unless the Flames' scout or management team really liked one of Tatar or Nyquist, targeting a first was the right call.

Less awful than what the trade ended up being.

Nyquist was a top prospect... its not like he magically came from nowhere this year. He's doing better than expected in the NHL right away... but he was always considered a top prospect.

As it has been stated numerous times the Flames could have taken the trade and still drafted Poirier. Feaster never got value in big trades. It goes all the way back to his days in Tampa. Glad he's gone.

I tend to think the Poirier would have still been available at 28 so essentially it likely boils down to Klimchuk and a 2nd round pick or the Wings offer. Klimchuk looks like he may be a player but I would probably have taken Tatar and Nyquist but hindsight is 20/20 as these guys didn't look as good last year as they do today.

Now it looks like a no brainers but at the time it still looks better than what we got .
Hopefully this silences the Feaster Faction once and for all...

If your scoring it at home:
1) RoR Fiasco
2) Bouw Bottom

Based on what? They would have had plenty of opportunity. Regardless of their play this year their value last year was way above the value we got. It sucks and it's over but trying to downplay it is ridiculous.

Nyquist would certainly have had plenty of opportunity. What he wouldn’t have had is the quality of linemates he has in Detroit.

Tatar would have had to take a very large number and get in line. The Flames were already a joke on account of having about 30,000 LWs in their system (among other reasons).

Let's face it, if you added Tatar to the team that Feaster put together, you'd have to get Trotsky as the coach. ‘The starting lineup for your Calgary Flames, from left wing to extreme left wing—’

Exactly. People on this very board wanted Bouw bought out the year before. Meaning they wanted to get rid of him for NOTHING. Hindsight indeed.

Poirier would have been gone by 28th.
We will see what we get with 2nd this year.
