It will be interesting to see how Tatar and Nyquist perform against the Bruins this year. The Bruins are the kind of team the Flames will have to fight through to get out of their division in the future. Will the much larger Bruins be able to marginalize smaller players like Tatar and Nyquist? My hunch is yes, but I guess we'll know for sure in about 2 weeks.
They both had good regular seasons, but they're also both small LWs, of which we have plenty already. Poirier projects to be more the kind of player that championship teams need. We'll see though, he could scrub out altogether. It will really be at least 10 years before we can say whether Poirier + the 2nd we got for Berra are worth more than Tatar and Nyquist. Assuming anyone even cares at that time.

At the start of the season before the rebuilding started, yes. I think it would have been a decent short term solution, but would have been a step back trying to get this team to be able to play in the Pacific.

Ugh. That would have been nice. I wonder why Feaster insists in getting inferior deals. Guess we'll have to see how Poirier turns out. So far it's looking good judging by the year he just had.

Bottom line, it was a year ago. The GM in charge has been fired. And all the anger is so pointless.
Sure Nyquist AND Tatar would've been amazing but I also understand that the primary target was a first round pick. They got one. Poirier is no slouch. Give him time to prove the St.Louis trade was the right trade.

Its about as pointless as it is to be angry about anything that happens in the NHL or whatever pass time entertainment we choose.

Flames also have to see what they get in the 2nd round pick they managed to pry out of the Avs for Berra. Burke has a chance to steer the 2nd half of this trade right.

Concussion issues. Already 26 and tied up long term. Plays centre which we are pretty much set at with Monny, Backlund, and Stajan in the top three lines. Shoots left and is only 5'11. Only exceeded his rookie season points total by two this year, so he is approaching post-apex territory. Sure, he scored 50+ once, but has never even hit 40 other than that. Do not want.

Klimchuk instead of Nyquist and Tatar
Agostino instead of Bartowski
Jankowski instead of Teravainen
I really hope we never find out what Feaster "could have" had for Regehr.

To be fair, the above comment isn't really accurate...
It's Poirier (a 1st), Cundari and Berra (who became a 2nd - Thanks Burkie! ) instead of Nyquist, Tatar and a 2nd
Klimchuk (a 1st), Agostino and Hanowski instead of Khoklachev, Bartkowski and a 1st (which we probably would have used to pick Klimchuk as well). Although this was more Iginla's decision than Feaster's...
Jankowski and Sieloff instead of Teravainen
Not that I'm defending Feaster's trading ability. He was awful with the exception of the Erixon trade. But it wasn't as bad as the above post made it out to be...

I really hope Feaster is hired by the Canucks.

At least that trade is looking a bit better nowadays.

I don't think we can hold the Iginla trade to Pittsburgh instead of Boston against Feaster. He made the Boston deal and Iginla nixed it to go to Pittsburgh. I believe Feaster rightly earned his firing but his legacy doesn't need to be exaggerated.

So gross. I would have been thrilled with one plus...even a year ago.

This is a lesson to anyone.
If Detroit offers you European players, especially those that are "discovered" by their uber scout like it was in each case with Nyquist and Tatar, you take them even if the other offer seems slightly better at the time.
Nyquist has been my favourite prospect for the last 4 years+ and I would've jumped at the opportunity to get him, especially if the trade was similar to the return that they got for the Blues, which it appears it was actually better.
I like Poirier a lot, and think that pick will turn into a home run, but give me a break.
Ugh.

You're the second poster to say this. Mackenzie said Nyquist and Tatar - he never said a 2ns as well
The confusion might stem from the rumours at the time of the trade being Nyquist and a 2nd

The whole reason Iginla was able to nix it in the first place was because Feaster didn't get his list of teams in writing. He should totally be held accountable for that.
