Yes, they did. The Bay is a private US company though and sold Zellers.
On a bit of a tangent there have been rumours over the past couple years about The Bay going public.

Yes, because this thread has been completely on track the entire time.

I went into a KMart in the US last year to get some toothpaste (every tube of Crest was expired!). Now that was a scary place. Kind of a post-apocalyptic/zombie movie feel to it. I did get a bath towel for 8 bucks, and a pair of 18K-gold(?) earrings for 30 bucks though.
Also C-P. I don't get the Finwood joke *woosh*

I was in the Zellers in Chinook Centre the other day and was shocked to see they still had that old cafe open by the mall entrance. Everything in there looked like it was perfectly preserved from about 1985, right down to the crazy 80's hair on one lady and a vintage "Burgers, Fries, Shakes" sign hanging up.

In a city, hells no. But having lived and worked in a small town in Nova Scotia where there was no Walmart for many years, it was a quality place for eating and shopping.

75% of the appeal of Nick's Steakhouse is that it still looks exactly like it did in 1983.

Downtown Charlottetown too - the Zellers Restaurant (where my grandmother worked) was a great place to spend time... err 25 years ago. Yikes. I'm old.

There's still a GT in Forest Lawn, isn't there? The prices there aren't as good as I thought they'd be when I moved here.

A Giant Tiger opened on 32nd Ave NE before Christmas. I thought it was a one of a kind thing--guess not.

Chestermere still rocks a Bargain Shop, it's like a mini K-Mart in a strip mall, minus the glorious cafe where you could get your jello fix! Giant Tiger is basically an equivalent of the Bargain Shop. The most improved grungy store is Army and Navy, still an absolute garbage looking facility and god have mercy on your soul if you had to drop a deuce like I did at the Army and Navy, but they have some decent inventory there. They were selling crested replica Capitals jersey's for like 30 bucks.

I only go there when I need a Halloween costume. It seems like a store that should be in communist Russia.

Army and Navy was one of my favorite stores because even at the end of the 90s, it was like walking straight into 1980. I haven't been there in 10 years though. I can't believe it's still open. Is the Bingo joint still going?
