Very glad i couldn't watch that one.... watched every highlight i could and that was brutal again.
If Smith had been in against montreal or new york it could have been the same blow up.
People are saying Keenan, Sutter ect.... they probably would turn down an offer to coach this team. Too small, too soft, no heart.
I say we go full retro on them, dont burn the tapes... take every single bad play, shift and goal against and show it to them...
If this is season doesn't turn around then blow up the team and start from scratch... Draft big players who can skate, hit, fight who show heart and remake the anaheim team that everyone hated to play.

Am on vacation down south, glad i didn't waste my time with this crap team.
The team aucks, and has sucked for 20+ years and aren't going to stop sucking.
Everyone on the roster is overrated.
Gaudreau's size keeps him in the 2nd top line group. Monahan is a 2nd liner, neal was another dumb overpay, no actual scoring depth, and tge d and goaltending sucks.
It's a meh team. They may make a low seed playoff spot but it's not winning jack balls.

I told my kids that we won't be going to any Flames games this year unless they can prove that they can work hard and win games. Tonight my 10 year old thanked me. He said it isn't fun going to see them lose and tonight would have made him cry if he was there.
I'm almost giving up on the team. This happens way too often. Thankfully not as epic as this but the team has too many nights where it looks like they don't care. If this doesn't kick them in the pants then I don't know how much more I can take.

Oh, come on. This isn't a wakeup call. Wednesday was the wakeup call. This is sleeping through the first six alarms and walking (not even sprinting) to a thirty-minute meeting and arriving two hours late.

Actually Gio you have been throught this before the Valentine's day massacre in Boston.

Some crazy hyperbole in this thread, but I can't disagree with the concerned sentiments. Hope my NHL Center Ice money isn't wasted this year as I feared it would be.

About the only positive I have is this Darren Haynes article from 2016 about new coaches historically having a big adjustment period before the team really clicks:
http://www.flamesfrom80feet.ca/2016/...r-new-nhl.html
The team is still .500, and almost all his examples were significantly worse through their first 12-22 games before gettings this on track.
Please let this be the case. I just don't get how this is the same team that 2 weeks ago shut out Nashville and dominated Colorado for 55 minutes.

I have concerns about his age too but I really don’t know how anyone can watch this team and conclude that Gio of all people is part of the problem. He and Tkachuk are the only two guys who bring it every game.

Hurricanes seem to have turned things around this year in the early going, which is nice for their fans, it was a long 4 years before they got a coach like Rod the Bod.

I know times are tough but giving up on the team is not an option! We have lots of good players we just need to get them on the same page one way or another. I think the blowout in hindsight shows us that there are some underlying issues that need addressing. Peters has some big challenges ahead but we have a good team here. I know your frustrated but hang in there!

Exactly. We know they can play like one of the top teams in the league. We’ve seen it 3 times in the first 10 games, so why exactly have the looked like dog poop the last 3 games? Every season there are peaks and valleys, is this just a typical bad streak? Is it just the historical Flames poor start? Is the team still adjusting to a new coach/system? Or is there a deeper problem?
Getting absolutely pummeled sucks but I’d wager most of the people ragging on Peters were praising him 2 weeks ago for the excellent time-out and comeback in Colorado, successful offside challenge in Boston, the wins over Boston and Nashville, and winning the advanced stats battle in almost every game up until the Rangers game. One huge beat down and 3 game losing streak doesn’t give an accurate picture or every coach on every team would be fired every season.
If the team still looks terrible by around game 25, then I’ll start to worry but I suspect this is just a typical slow start/losing streak/new coach adjustment.

Heart and toughness is the problem. Gadreau is bulldozed by McAvoy, no one steps up for Gadreau. Tkachuk calls the team out, and no one responds. Team gets down 3-0 and then folds the tent and goes home. No physical or mental toughness.
I’m still on the bandwagon but man this one stings.

For some morning after perspective...I am going to leave this here. There are some things horribly wrong with the way this team is playing right now, but this is not season defining.

Glad I wasn't able to tune in for this week's games.
It's a bad hockey team thus far. I fear that just about every position is overrated by Flames fans.
It's a real shame

This. A thousand times this. I saw through that entire debacle at the Dome, and I just couldn't believe that no one threw a hit, started a scrum, dropped the gloves or did anything to remotely demonstrate to the fans that they gave one single f*$k about what was going on. I felt like I was more angry about it after 40 minutes than anyone on the ice.
Some people say bag skate today. Why bother? No one on this team gives a s&#t. Might as well just tell them "Games at 2 on Saturday fellas, if you want to drop by"
The lack of anything from anyone on that bench was just appalling. I'm most disappointed with Chucky. If I can't rely on him to do something stupid in a situation like that, what's the point?

One (of multiple) concerns with this roster is that they don't have enough pride, and a 'eff you' factor in them. Of all games you would think they would showcase it, they went quietly into the night, just defeated. That's awful to see on your own home ice. At least stir crap up, and make the opposing team night miserable. Not asking for suspendable cheap shots, but just be physical and more in their face constantly. Show some emotion that your getting your ass kicked, and won't go down quietly into the night.

The pride is there I am sure. But when you are getting killed on the scoresheet like that you probably don't want to have your face broken on top of it. Who is going to fight on this team?
This team needs a goon, a good one too, not a second rate guy. Just look at this lineup.
Johnnie, Monahan, Lidholm, Backs, Frolik, Dube and on and on....all as soft as they come.
On D we have 3 kids that have 0 tougness plus Brodie.
This team will never win a playoff round. Just too small, soft and young. They need some swagger, but when a kid like Tkachuk is your toughest guy there is a problem.
When Grats skates by the bench and sends a message about touching our star players, teams take note.
But sure, let's ask the refs to protect everyone. They already told Johnnie to man up and stop flopping. Does that not tell you something?
More PPs? Sure. Great to have a PP when our best player, only player that can make a play is playing scared or sitting on the bench with an ice pack. Great plan. That will show everyone.
I get it that goons don't score goals. But would Ryan's offense be missed that much? Czarnik? All of his one empty net goal? Dube? Zilch. All nice stories for the GM and fans, but results on the ice are all that matters. These guys dont help us win that much. And it's early on when teams aren't even playing that hard yet.
