this one is my favourite so far ... lots of good players to choose from.
I went with Patterson, but I had a Stephane Yelle moment before pressing the button. Patterson was a key cog to that cup team, but Yelle was an important player in the culture change that turned the Flames around 10 years ago.

Have to go with Sandbox on this one. One of my favorite Flames of all time.

Another one of those 51-49 choices. I went Patterson over Yelle though.

Backlund may end up being the best of them all, but for now I went with Patterson. This list is almost as strong as the list for #10.

Owen Nolan's time was too short, but he was such an awesome player for so many years. It's hard not to choose him, but I just can't.
Kisio was a very good player before he came to Calgary, but didn't do much for the Flames.
Bob MacMillan was quite the player in his time for the Flames, but he's just not that memorable in the grand scheme of things.
Mikael Backlund? Maybe one day, but not yet.
Jeff Shantz? Don't get me started…
It came down to Patterson vs. Yelle. Both had similar stats, both played a similar game. Patterson gets some favorability because of the cup runs and win, as well as being part of the BoA when it was at its peak. I still had to go with Yelle, as he just did everything you want a hockey player to do to help you win. He was such an unsung hero just about every night.
This was close, but I went with Yelle.

Went with Yelle, feel bad I didn't pick Patterson... if i picked Patterson I would have felt bad I didn't select Yelle
Both were amazing

Yelle for me.
Patterson was key to the Cup win, but, unfortunately, he spent too much time out of the line-up with injuries.
Edit: Looking into it, so did Yelle, to my surprise. Would give Patterson the nod, in that case, but already voted....

Gotta go with the Selke Trophy finalist - Patterson.

Yeller here, no question for me. Looks like we need that type of player moving forward if we want to win.

Recognize I have a bit of personal bias but a little love for Backlund... I think the other two were very good defensive role players but Backlund is a better all around player than either; he plays great d and is an amazing penalty killer as well but contributes more offence than the other two.
Both the other two have cup run shines but I think Backlund shouldn't be penalized for playing on a worse team.
Also his determination to make it to where he is after so many setbacks where the kid could have left for sweden or boiled over, his character and the way he came in and led Kelowna to a whl title... Always will be a special player to me personally.
I can see why folks would say he needs to do it for a few more years. I think he will be number one in this poll in a few years if he doesn't get dealt.

It's heart-breaking for me to see Patterson so far behind Yelle...I understand he's a lot more recent, and he was a bey important player, too...but I loved the 3rd line CGY was able to put up against any other team's top line back then...Patterson was a big reason for the Flames dominance during that window.

I went with Patterson. He taught me what a true "role player" was in hockey, and that's no insult.

He won the Lady Byng with the Flames. He was one of the top scorers on the team each year during his tenure. I'm going with Bob Macmillan to show some love to the Atlanta players.
If I was only considering time with Calgary and not Atlanta, I'd probably go with Patterson with the slight edge over Yelle.

I don't see how any person having seen Yelle and Patterson could even suggest Backlund is in the same class, never mind suggest he's a better player than both???
Very strange post.
Do you have a rationale? You mentioned he kills penalties??
Both Yelle and Patterson we're amongst the best penalty killers of their respective eras...Patterson was recognized as one of the top Def Forwards in the NHL, and yet was still under-rated, IMO.
In what area of the game is Backlund a superior player???

Paterson played on the top line with Gilmour and Mullen, and scored 15 pts in the Stanley Cup run.

Yes I'm oldish so I've seen all three play a lot. 86 was my first season watching.
Backlund is a superior player offensively, by a pretty good margin. I also think he is an exceptional defensive player although not as good as yeller. If he was on either of those other two teams he'd be a major contributor.
Not saying others shouldn't vote for Yelle or Patterson, just rationalizing my choice and giving backs some love.

Tough to choose between Yelle an Patterson , then I remember the 3rd line in the mid 80s' went up against Gretz and co. regularly.
Add in Sheehy and they made life hellish

Patterson. Terribly under-rated defensive player from an era when defense didn't have the same team commitment level.
