Jersey Poll - All Time #3
Did this five years ago, thought it might be interesting again. Always fun to see younger fans and older fans arguing over different generations in a battle.
Will put one up a day whenever possible.
Have fun! and Go old guys!
How it works:
I pick off a key group of players for each jersey. I don't use every name, as that gets tedious and unnecessary (probably go with say 5 unless there are many that wore the same number).
I also don't put up a guy for the number he isn't known for (Iginla shouldn't win #24 for example)
Results:
1 - Roman Turek 67.8% ( http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=138746)
2 - Al MacInnis

Dion for sure. Regardless how his time ended here. Best player to ever wear 3 even if you hate him.

I've always been a big Musil fan. Such a rock-steady dman. I also still remember the stories of him working in a butcher shop in the off-season to remind him of what real work was like.
Shame he had to sully himself with the Oilers.

I loved Musil too, but e's not even in the same ballpark as Phaneuf, no matter how much of a dbag Dion is.

I loved Musil as much as the next guy but he isn't even top 3 of guys to wear #3 imo. Regardless, I think Phaneuf is the choice here.

I went Musil ... solid top four on a great Flames team, and a super partner for Al MacInnis at the time.
Is Phaneuf more skilled? Clearly ... but then not in all areas, certainly not between the ears, and undoubtebly not under the chest plate.
Its like Fleury and retiring jerseys for me ... character comes into to it too

I love me some Musil. My 2nd favorite defenseman back in the hey day of the Flames.
It's a shame that we got James Patrick after his best years in New York. He has 630 points putting him 30th all time for defensemen. Crazy right?
Dion's time was so tumultuous I can't justify picking him, especially with the disruption to team chemistry that occurred. I also don't think he plays defense very well. Plus, I just don't like the guy, and that should count right?
Gauthier wasn't a very good defenseman, but man could he hit.
And…I'm sorry, but I'm not old enough to remember Pat Quinn's time with the Flames. Can't vote for him based on that alone, but his stats aren't too shabby.

James Patrick was a very good player, even here. People tend to forget him because it was a sad era for us in general. Musil would be the sentimental choice, but let's also be realistic - he was a supporting player on a great team. So, Steve Konroyd it is.

Dion has the largest ceiling and best raw skill set of this list, but I think Musil had a more positive impact on the team during its formidable years.
Just a question, are we supposed to base our answers on the best player during their time in Flames silks, or the overall best player (career) to wear that number for the Flames?

Yeah, Musil was solid like a lot of Flames players in that era, and good for a quote, so he's more memorable than others.
Patrick was a far better defenceman then Musil, on a far far crappier team.
Neck and neck with Phaneuf IMO for different reasons, but I'll give it to Dion. He could change games early in his career. A weapon from the point, teams aware of him in both ends. 49,50,60,47 points in his first 4 years as a 20-24 year old, missing no more than 2 games each of those seasons.

Yeah, retrospect might not be kind to Dion, but let's remember, the guy was a Norris finalist for us. He was a marquee player and even the steadiness of Frank Musil can't stand up to that.

Patrick and Musil were both solid players, but I had to go with Phaneuf despite things not working out for long.
It's nice to see Musil and Patrick are fondly remembered though.

Frankie one of my absolute all time favorites. Have to pick him. He's the anti-Dion. No flash, no sizzle just a solid dman who allowed Chopper the freedom to do his thing

Wanted to vote Musil but just couldn't. Dion was an all star and Calder Norris finalist with the Flames. Frank never got a sniff

Hearing both Patrick and Musil makes me think of those 94 and 95 teams. Both of those teams (the 94 squad especially) deserved so much better. To this day I still can't get over the fact that we lost to Vancouver in three straight over time games. If we had won that series we would have played San Jose in the next round (due to re-seeding--Right? Someone correct me if I'm wrong) and I think we would have easily won that series (not a good team at all, 8 seed that year).
The 95 series against SJ really blows my mind as we out scored them by 9 goals! I have to think that has to be a record that will never come close to being touched. Hell I'd be surprised if a team has ever won a series being outscored by 5 goals.
