Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2016 - Round 33

It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaack. almost like Shark Week on the Discovery Channel Calgarypuck and the Summer Prospect Ranking has become an institution for rabid Calgary hockey fans.

2013 - Sean Monahan is the top prospect (2013)

2014 - Johnny Gaudreau takes his turn (2014)

2015 - Sam Bennett come on down! (2015)

The last three years have had a prospect named first, and then make an impact right away on the NHL team. Bennett had to have surgery and mop up the OHL first, but all three were big players for the Flames right away.

Will that be the case again this year?

As per usual the vote is up to you. Some see it as most likely to play, some see it as highest ceiling, others see it as a mix of both.

Happy voting!

All are longshots but their upsides are probably:

Rafikov - Middle Pair D
Karnaukhov - 4th line C
Harrison - 4th line RW
Bruce - 7th D
Kanzig - AHL D

Despite being far away, I'd argue Rafikov has the highest potential upside of anybody left on the list.

I'm guessing this upcoming year will be the first that he sticks with the KHL for a full season. It'll be interesting to see what he can do.

I'm still shocked that we took Kanzig with a 3rd round pick.
If he were 6'0'' tall... I doubt he'd have even gotten a camp invite.

Still voting for Rafikov, but also really like Kanzig (just in case I don't get to vote for him). It would not surprise me at all to see Kanzig make the Flames one day as a 6th defencemen. Kid is a smart player, with very good mobility for his size (which still needs work, but really good for his size). Nice long reach to go with the IQ.

Also, I am betting that Kanzig has a rough start to the year in the AHL, but builds up nicely. Being that big (height and build) almost works against you as a defencemen in the CHL - give any player a moderately hard hit, and you get called for a penalty. Will have to adjust his physical play in the pros, but I bet he becomes a more effective defencemen there than in juniors.

Still have Rafikov ahead as I think he has top 4 upside (and once again, I don't factor in the odds of him coming halfway around the world).

I went Karnakhov

good showing in Penticton last year, and just left so he seems less committed at this point than Rafikov

Rafikov I think has a bigger upside with what is left on the table. Whether that is realized in the NHL is another story.
