Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2016 - Round 23

It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaack. almost like Shark Week on the Discovery Channel Calgarypuck and the Summer Prospect Ranking has become an institution for rabid Calgary hockey fans.

2013 - Sean Monahan is the top prospect (2013)

2014 - Johnny Gaudreau takes his turn (2014)

2015 - Sam Bennett come on down! (2015)

The last three years have had a prospect named first, and then make an impact right away on the NHL team. Bennett had to have surgery and mop up the OHL first, but all three were big players for the Flames right away.

Will that be the case again this year?

As per usual the vote is up to you. Some see it as most likely to play, some see it as highest ceiling, others see it as a mix of both.

Happy voting!

Votes Phillips ...

this just might be that line where the intrigue level starts to go down. Guys after 21 all have issues that have me somewhat doubtful. Don't get me wrong, I'll be surprised by someone down the list, and not everyone above that line will make it, but that's the line where I go from projecting to forgetting.

Going with Rittich. At this stage of the list, having been hand-picked from across the ocean has got to suggest some sort of promise.

I saw a video of Philips in the previous thread so I'm voting him.

Philips' skill is nice, but I'll take the forward who already has NHL size and might have some skill that translates to the NHL: Mattson.

It was between Phillips and Smith. Phillips is more of a home run type player if he can transition to the big game. Like Gaudreau, he will need a couple extra years. Smith still intrigues me with his size. If he can improve his skating there is no doubt he can be an effective 3rd or 4th liner.

Am I the only one that likes Morrison's game, and think he could push for a pro gig in a few seasons?

What are peoples thoughts on Rafikov. Admittedly, I have never watched him play except for in the 2014 WJC. However, the KHL is not a terrible place to develop.

Is he low on the list because there is no confidence that he will ever come to North America, or is it because he is not all that good of a prospect to begin with?

He looked quite good coming out of college when we signed him, but had a very rough start to his professional career last season.

Well he's 24 years old so the clock's ticking.

went with Hamilton. I think it's pretty interesting that Hathaway went 20th while Hamilton will have to fight hard for a top 25 spot at this point. Same age, yet Hamiltons AHL production was much higher. Hathaway is probably a bit closer to a full time NHL gig, but if Hamilton makes it, his impact could be a bit bigger IMO.

Getting thanks from Stupid, maybe awesome, maybe just a stupid post (This isn't a stupid post).

I dont think you can compare them as they play different styles.

Hathaway is a bottom 6 forward that likely tops out as a solid 4th liner, and I believe he can be a serviceable 4th liner now with room to grow and maybe make Bouma expendable.

Hamilton is more likely a 3rd line player or a career AHLer with me leaning towards the latter. I dont think there would ever really be room for him on the NHL roster if we didnt have room for Shore, Knight, Grant, Byron, Reinhart, Granlund ect.
