Flames 2024-25 Flames' Playoff Snake

The playoff snake is back for another season. To recap for the returnees, and explain for the newcomers, the black line represents 96 points normalized over the season, which is a 1.171 points per game pace. As long as the red snake gets to 96 points, the Flames will make the playoffs. The black line has nothing to do with the current standings, what the team in 8th place is doing, or any other variation. It does not matter if a team gets into the playoffs with only 80 points. The black line will not be changed to another number. This includes, but is not limited to, 94, 92, and 97. Explanation why is from this post: https://forum.calgarypuck.com/showpo...&postcount=616

This thread has absolutely nothing to do with Sports Club Stats, nor does it have anything to do with the likelihood or chance the Flames will make the playoffs. Please do not bring these up in this thread. There are many other threads for that purpose. Anyone bringing up Sports Club Stats will be punched in the taint.

No team in the western conference has achieved 96 points and missed the playoffs.

I have included the original 2014-15 snake as the comparative snake, as it had some ups and downs, but finished with 97 points.

With last night's win, the Flames have a 1-0-0 record. The red snake sits 0.829 points above the black line and 2 points above the purple snake. It is on pace for a 82-0-0 record, which would be an NHL record of 164 points. A record of 47-35-0 (95 point pace) for the rest of the season would get the red snake to 96 points.

Mantha is on pace for 82 Gordie Howe hat-tricks which, I believe, would also be an NHL record.

Random thought, and I am totally willing to be shouted down over this because it may be profoundly anti-snake as a suggestion, but:

Could we normalize the average worst team in the league score and chart a line to that point total in the opposite sense of the 96 point playoff? Since this season we aren't expecting to really contend (though it would be nice to be a surprise) it may be fun to also watch our progress in a rebuild sense?

I like sneky optimism. I’m onboard team tank AND team snek. If we finish first overall, habs can have stupid Treliving’s garbage trade garbage. I hope Florida finishes right behind us.
