They can keep the 25th amendment in their pocket unless violence breaks out again or Trump does something else stupid like the insurrection act.
The problem with using the 25th is that it likely incites violence and rioting. So if their is strong belief among cabinet and the Senate that they can get to the end peacefully then that’s the route you take.
I do think after this last around of shenanigans that the full force of State and US Justice departments should be brought against him for crimes committed. Before I was concerned it would look politically motivated but now think the symbol that no one is above the law outweighs is more important the the risk of encouraging future presidents from going after enemies

You think the 43 per cent of Republicans who oppose what happened yesterday should be discounted politically?
In the bigger picture, there has to be moderation and bipartisan compromise or the riots and insurrections will just go on and on, and the enterprise of government collapse. It’s not as though one side down there is just going to outright win everything and drive the other from the field.

The cynic in me says they’ll ride this out till the 20th with no real movement on the 25th, and Trump walks himself defiantly from the Oval Office to the helicopter with the full bravado of a man who feels he’s done nothing wrong.
I suspect Pence tries to keep a muzzle on him until then, while his twitter/facebook accounts remain locked.
As appropriate as full on removal/imprisonment is at this point, I highly doubt we’ll see it, it would upset the house of cards too much for the government to stomach.

I have no doubt he and his kids will be out of the country as soon as possible.
No way he sticks around to see what will happen to him legally. He'll frame it as a vacation and that will be that.
I also believe that if the government tries to haul him back, and yesterday will repeat itself all over the country.

Why is it always Democrats responsibility to reach across the aisle?
Where was Republican compromise in the last 12 years?

As long as he doesn’t have direct Twitter access it’ll be nice and quiet. Sad that Social media has more power than any other institution.

I am not a twitter guy, but I am happy they finally had the balls to ban him, even temporarily.
But the guy is the f'ing President. If he wants to send a message, he can stand in front of dozens of cameras and give a press conference. Such an a**hat. Takes no responsibility whatsoever.

I don’t find it sad, it makes sense. Private companies can be more strict than the government, they don’t have nearly the same issues dealing with “rights”.
I find it sad that we’ve given so much power to private companies, for convenience and fun. But they only have ‘power’ because people want to use them.

Twitter was a 12hr ban, so it should be unlocked now. Facebook and Instagram were 24hr locks.

It was only supposed to be 12 hours if he took down the flagged tweets.
He stays blocked if the tweets stay up.
I think he was blocked about 4 or 5:00pm yesterday?

Let's not fall for Cliff's usual shtick here. It's always the left's responsibility to compromise with the right in his eyes.

I guess this is how they quash any hope of using the 25th Amendment, eliminate votes.

He has.
His FB and IG accounts have been suspended for 14 days.....which takes it past the inauguration. I suspect twitter will follow at some point.

You can’t control what other people do. But if you care about politics from a utilitarian perspective, instead of for the emotional jolt like following a sports team, then you have to work how your choices will actually bring about better outcomes. Unending culture and political war that nobody can win, with both sides animated by their uncompromising extremes, is a fail state.
But hey, if you’ve enjoyed the last 12 years just keep on keepin’ on.

But the last 12 years are punctuated by Democrats repeatedly capitulating to the whims of Republicans.
Like, you are literally arguing against your own point. The Republicans don't have the interest of the country or it's constituency at heart, this is very reflective in the 100+ House members supporting the ludicrous Stop the Steal claims.
Give me one example in the last 10 years where either
a) the Republicans worked on a compromise with Democrats where the Rs are the ones "losing" on the deal, but want it in the interest of "cooperation"
or
b) the Democrats worked on a compromise with Republicans and *weren't* the losers on the deal

My reading of it was the ban is for 12 hours after yesterday’s tweets are removed. So the clock doesn’t start till him or one of his staff removed the tweets.
As of now the “these tweets have been removed...” notice is still there, which says to me Trump & co have not taken that action.
