How much you want to bet the Oilers won the lottery and they just said eff it and re did it until the Oilers had the least favorable outcome. It's got to be a serious stick in everyone's craw how much they suck.

So so soo happy i didn't even care to watch this as a flames fans. Pray to the heavens, we flames fans can ignore this night on the hockey calendar for years, decades...

At the current odds, the Senators pick had a better than 50% chance of being 4th overall.

Hall using a Canon downrigger and trolling the oilaz hard.
And sweatpantland must be so ornery about beating us in a meaningless game where McD gets injured that only serves to knock them out of drafting 2nd????!!!!

I’ll still enjoy their fans crying over a meaningless win though. As Table 5 said, that’ll learn em to win games.

Why not?
It’s not like some outside source made the pick which might change things, it was done by the computer.

That’s not how space/time works. If the Flames has won, maybe everything since Saturday evening would have gone exactly the same as if they’d lost but we’ll never know. There are an infinite number of possible outcomes.
Think of all the potential changes. Even something small. They invite different people to the draw, Bettman reading off the teams in a different order, the guy who hits the button does so half a seconds later, a different ball is drawn because of all this.

Yeah, but if Oiler fans don't understand this, then pretending this isn't the case helps us tease them.

Imagine being as bad for as long as Vancouver has been and still only picking 10th.

Vancouver was actually pretty good this year. Just got destroyed with injuries. As much as i hate to say it they actually have some really good young players

Not bad but that team still needs a lot of work.

Game 82 once again had massive implacations when it comes down to the 2pts on the board. Flames crush Vegas in a nothing game but had they not won they would have swapped with Carolina and ended up sending the Islanders the 2nd overall pick as part of the return for Hamonic. This year if the Flames has beat the Oilers the Oil would have finished behind the Rangers and end up picking 2nd overall this coming draft.

They were bottom five in pretty much every metric ...
shot attempts 7th worst
shots 5th worst
expected goal split 4th worst
scoring chance spits last
high danger 5th last
They just hung around games and picked up points.

Vancouver was 6th in the league in loser points. That's what made their record appear deceptively good.
Against playoff teams, they won 19 and lost 26. Against non playoff teams, they won 16 and lost 21.

They were carried by great goaltending, which covered up a LOT of warts. They were outplayed pretty much nightly - sometimes by a very significant margin.
Their season reminded me of the Oilers, circa 2010, when they had a young Hall and Eberle and - everyone's favorite - Linus Omark. His spinorama garbage made highlight reels, but was never going to help make the Oilers a better hockey team.
They are a long ways away, and drafting 10th is not what they need.
