I agree, however, he's 33 and will be nearing a pylon in the future. Same with Wideman. We quickly will need to fill in the gaps.
Wideman already is a pylon. Defensively and skating wise, he is the worst defenseman on the team, he's worse than Engelland. Wideman gets away as with being a NHL defenseman because he has off the charts offensive IQ.
Wideman was horrendous last year defensively too but he was so good offensively that most people ignored it.

My only beef with Randorf is that he spends too much time telling anecdotes about things that happened in the past instead of calling the play. Often even in the same game, he's talking about what already happened instead of what is happening.

Worse than Engelland? Derek has one of the worst breakout passes I've ever seen and was able to survive with Brodie helping him. This year it's Russell, his game fell apart.

Lost in all the McDavid hype last night was an awesome game by Bennett going head to head with him. One example of his drive and hustle was near the end of the game. He was deep in the offensive zone and McDavid made a pass up to pouliot I believe who started skating down on what started to become almost a 2-on-1... Bennett came all the way back to break up the pass.
You can really tell he had a personal stake in the rivalry and really wanted to stop McDavid all night. Going to be awesome as the years go on and the rivalry builds between those two. They obviously don't hate each other like giroux and Crosby but I see similar styles going against each other in this rivalry.
On the flip side of Bennett who I think is getting better with each passing game, the Giordano extension is not looking promising so far. Giordano is still struggling out there.
I woke up my 6 month old son, and my 3.5 year old by proclaiming I love Michael Frolik at the top of my lungs. My wife isn't even all that mad.
I've never screamed such a string of insulting profanities towards my TV (directed at Talbot, McDaigle, and Fishlips Hall) in a long, long time.
So.. Does your 3.5 y/o son now have a new saying? "#&%@ you Talbot"? Lol

Negative. The Oilers player trying to do his best, yet much more discrete, Sean Avery impression with his glove right in the face of Ramo during the shot. It was the right no goal call.

I'm not gonna be hard on Giordano yet. That's not exactly minor surgery he had, and he's been pretty good at times.
If he's still struggling in January, then that may be a problem.

Patience. We're not going to see all the veterans shipped out this year with rookies stepping up. That's a long process.

Haha, you're describing Wideman like he's a fraud who's got away with playing in the NHL for years somehow. "Off the charts offensive IQ" is an NHL skill, and a coveted one at that. He's never been great defensively and everyone from fans to media to management knows that.
He's an offensive defenseman, and they typically range anywhere from terrible to passable at defending, and then teams decide whether their offense is worth lack of defense. In Wideman's case he has always received good money because he can put up serious points and drive offense at times.
Sure, Wideman could be awesome at defense, too, then he'd be a 50 point, offensive and defensive defenseman and would be winning the Norris trophy all the time, and would cost $8+ million a year. Sometimes you take what you can get under the cap, and Wideman has provided quite a bit to this team.

I'm not calling him a fraud at all. I'm just saying he's great offensively and terrible defensively. He was a $5 million dollar defensman last year, if he doesn't produce at the same xlip, then he's not worth the money. If he produced at the same clip AND was stellar in his own end, then he would be a Norris trophy defenseman.
I'm fine with his defensive shortcomings if he produced offensively. Just like I'm fine with Engelland having zero offense as long as he limits his mistakes defensively and wins the majority of his fights.
I'm Honestly more upset with Giordano this year than Wideman. Wideman is what he is, Gio is not anything like what he was last year or what he's going to be paid to be starting next year. It's a scary thought if he's play continues like this.
