One glorious day, texting-while-driving will be looked upon with as much scorn as drinking and driving is. I can't imagine anything being so important that you couldn't be disconnected from your all-important social life for a few minutes or heaven forbid a few hours.

Yeah, I think so. But it wasn't a speed limit sign.

My point is that the white background signs are 'THOU SHALT_______' and the yelow background signs are more 'You really should____'.

So convolutedly(sp), I take this to mean:

Slower travelling vehicles: Stay to the right

Not:

Hey there slower folks, please, if you could, you know, stay ,to the right. If you could.Thanx

Just my opinion.

Not that I don't believe you; I would have bet money on there being a sign. Just so we can avoid a debate on it again.
Driving North from Okotoks, about 100m after the Calgary City Limits sign there is one, on a white background to boot.

That is the only one I've seen since I started looking, (thanks to this thread) but I'm not on Deerfoot that often.

Thought is was ironic that it was right inside the city limits, as if purposefuly ending the argument once and for all.

Or maybe 4X4 put it there in the middle of the night. If so, good work dude!

Whether there are signs on Deerfoot or not, doesnt matter. It is common knowledge anywhere else in this world that the left lane on a freeway is for faster moving autos. Absolutely no reason for anyone to do speed limit or slightly above to be in the left lane of a 3 lane highway. Only a individual with no clue on freeway driving would think its appropriate to drive speed limit in the left lane. Stay in the small town and away from urban cities if you feel its ok to do that.

However in defence of most drivers I encounter on Deerfoot, most people move over and allow faster cars to pass. I think for the most part, Calgarians know how to drive on a freeway with respect to the left lane. A small percentage(prob ones from small towns or Sask, etc where they have no real freeways) dont. I find and its not a reflection of drivers here. Most drivers move over for me when I am in the left lane and speeding.

But a slow moving vehicle is someone going under the speed limit, most likely to happen in the winter.......it's not giving speeders the green light to haul down the left lane.

Yah, but I mean, the reality is, people do speed. You can argue the legality all you want, but that's the reality. So why be so stubborn and self righteous about it and stay in the left when clearly the speedsters are going to be coming down the left lane? If you're doing speed limit or slightly above, why don't you just make it easier for everyone involved (including yourself) and just let the guy speeding pass?

I remember in the good old days, rolling and twisting while steering with your knee. At least that's what I heard, I've never done it, and especially not in the left lane.

So why be so arrogant and self righteous about speeding down the left lane when clearly the speed limits are posted and other drivers are obeying those limits? If you're speeding why don't you make it safer for everybody involved (including yourself) and just slow down to the posted limit?

That reminds me ... what are the most frequently heard last words before an MVA in Saskatchewan?

"Here, hold my Pil for a second ... watch this."

The other day I was driving my mom home from the airport in Edmonton on the Anthony Henday. I was in the left lane going about 115 in a 100 zone trying to get past like 4 or 5 vehichles who were probably all going the limit. Some guy in a Dodge Diesel pickup comes up behind me and is right on my arse. I sped up to get by the last two so I could move over since they were all pretty close together I maybe held him up by 5 seconds to make a "safer" lane change where I wouldn't be trying to cut in between two cars close together. By the time I moved over I'm going 150 which is waaaay too fast and this guy blows by me...and gives me the finger while yacking on his cell phone than continues to weave in and out of traffic. I slowed down to a more normal speed of like 110. 2 minutes later this moron is 4 vehichles ahead of me at the next light. I mean I'm driving fast here, too fast but apparently I'm holding this guy up. One day I would like to see a guy like that lose control and flip his truck as I watch. I'd run up to his truck knock on his window and laugh at him, than take his cell phone and call the police.

Hey all I'm saying is, if you wanna have the speeding guys keep weaving in and out of lanes to get in front of you, then by all means just stay in your left lane. I mean, you have every right to after all, since you're going your speed limit. One way or another, they're gonna get in front of you, and continue speeding along the way, so what has you clogging up the left lane really solved? Not a whole lot except for making you feel better that you're a law abiding citizen and follows everything to a tee while that speedster that zipped back across the lanes to cut in front of you is breaking the law.

Oh and for the record, I do agree that there will always be pricks who ride your tail and what not even though you're just looking for an opportunity to cut back into the middle so the person can get past you. My argument is for the people who go "well, I'm going speed limit so I should have the right to stay in the left lane, even if the other two right lanes are free."

Classic. Yep, I would like to do something like that too.

Seems the drivers here in Edmonton are getting worse and worse with this speeding everywhere. I can't go anywhere without some guy right on my ass (regardless of what lane I'm in and doing the speed limit or higher) and others blowing past me like I'm parked. Where the hell are all the cops these days?

I use cruise control on the highway when I want to keep my speed in check, but I find using cruise on Deerfoot or anywhere in the city impossible. You can't go farther than about 500 metres without hitting your brakes and cancelling the cruise.
This is one post I found worth pointing out (sorry for the late reply). This used to be my attitude. Then I realized I had road rage problems. I'm not telling you how to drive or live your life, but something I think you may want to consider. I used to be a standard ~10 above (60 in a 50 zone, 125 on the highway) driver in the right lane, now I'm a speed limit to 5 above (50-55 in a 50 zone, 110 on the highway) in the middle lane and I'm a far less stressful driver. If you are posting like 4X4 or REDVAN, I think you have road rage problems and you may want to consider taking it easy. (No offense guys) If you do speed, but don't get all bent out of shape to slow down and let the guy in front of you change for 10 sec, thats fine.

For the thread, it comes to courtasy. People speed, get over it. Don't try policing the roads, mind your own business However, this isn't Rome or Paris, get over that as well. Yes, Paris and Rome does that and it works great, but this isn't Rome or Paris. Calm down.

Personally, I keep out of the right lane to let incoming traffic merge.

Why does it always seem to be the massive trucks that come barreling down the left lane at 80+ km/h over the speed limit? Is it some sort of driver personality thing?

If it's safe to do so, I don't really mind the people who are in a bloody rush to get to their taco stand. Just as long as they speed in the left lane. I'm getting sick of nearly getting smacked in the rear by morons who try to pass me on the right (in the largest blind spot too). No driver should be passing in the right lane under normal conditions. Ever.

Is this true? If the workers arn't in the zone the speed limits are not enforced? I always thought that a construction zone was 24/7 while it was designated one, meaning obey the signs.
