Given our D situation, what would make you guys trade him? 1st?

If they can sell high on Whitecloud, you sell high on Whitecloud.
I don’t think you keep Lomberg either.

1st? Definitely.
2nd + Good young player/prospect? Definitely.
2nd + 2nd? Definitely.
I like Whitecloud, but given the Flames cap-space, they can afford to sign a replacement in free agency if it means returning real value for the future in a trade now.

How about this:
To San Jose: Whitecloud + Coleman
To Calgary: Oilers’ 2026 1st round pick + Bystedt + Conditional 3rd round pick (becomes a 2nd if San Jose makes the playoffs)

I wouldn't say no, but not sure SJ is in an urgent position to make that trade.

I could see them being hesitant to give up that Oilers pick now that it’s unprotected. I want that pick so bad. Nothing would be sweeter than the oilers missing the playoffs because the flames helped load up the Sharks to take their spot… and then the oilers win a lottery pick that ends up going to Calgary. Flames end up drafting twice in the top 5 thanks to the oilers.

If we trade Whitecloud the flames have gone fully scorched earth rebuild. This defense is thin. Gonna be a rough couple years.

They should. That’s exactly how you make a championship
Team. They still might not have the goalie for a cup but adding those 2 players significantly improves their team at 2 important positions and brings in 2 cup winning vets that play hard

Laine does not seem like someone who has a passion for playing professional hockey. I expect he's fine with just collecting a paycheque in a city he likes even if he's getting minimal ice time or sitting in the press box.

I have a soft spot for Laine that I don't even understand. Would love to see him come here.

Yeah. Would be bleak but if the team really wanted to bring in some veteran defencemen in the offseason, they could go to free agency and overpay some guys on 1-2 year deals - they would not be as good but could act as veteran leaders and be buffers for the young guys. Would be wild if Andersson ended up not liking it in Vegas and the flames convinced him to sign with them again. Highly unlikely of course.

I was thinking Anderson back to the flames earlier too. lol
I have no idea who’s on the UFA list this summer.
But I just don’t see any current defense outside Bahl being capable of playing 20+ minutes a night.

Mine is trading for Laine and receiving an asset for taking his contract, and then trading him away with retention for additional assets.

Local guy, actually not a bad fit on their third line

I don't dislike Whitecloud but if you are being offered anything like a 2nd round pick you take that and run, he's not that good.
