"Up to three 2nd round picks" sounds more like a conditional 3rd that could turn into a 2nd to me.

I'm sorry but the talk of a 1st + one of Utah's top 5 prospects just never made sense. People are going to be upset with this trade but I think this will be close to fair value.

I hope for a better prospect than Wiebe otherwise I don’t love it. Is Parayko that much better than Weegar?

If this leads to drafting the Wrucks all will be forgiven.

Conroy could certainly use those picks to cause a Ruckus.

Are 2nds sometimes used on draft day to move up to get a first a team really wants? Maybe use one to move that Vegas pick we have up for a player scouts have an eye on…?

That's exactly what I am hoping they do.
If they have their eyes set on a McKenna or Stenberg, gather enough assets to make it next to impossible for the other team to say no.

Darryl had Iggy and Kipper in their primes - they didn’t need to draft 2nd rounders in that span.

I suspect Weegar will not be worth $6.25 million when he is 37.
Taking Maatta doesn't necessarily mean the Flames get more value than they did for Anderson.
|
Exactly. Conny just freed up $6.25M in cap space for '29, '30, and '31. People need to take this into account when assessing the trade.

If it's the NYR and Ottawa 2nds then I'm fine with that actually, those are earlier seconds. And still it be top 45 likely.

I'd say the contract boosts his value more than Andersson big time

1st rd pick definitely.
Flames should get a better prospect than Wiebe, although I do like Abram as a prospect. Whitecloud > Maata, nevermind the Flames are taking on term in Maata.
Plus Weegar is signed at a reasonable deal for 5 more years, as oppo pay sed to Andersson being a FA and wanting much more than that. To me the return should be noticeably better, especially when taking Maata.
|
Exactly ,Remember that we really don't have to trade him like you said wegs has an reasonable. Contract.so unless a team is willing to over pay for him why do we need to settle on a bad deal

Before we are up in arms prior to the deal, keep in mind that Utah has (3) 2nds. Two of those are NYR and OTT, high 2nds. Assuming it's strictly 2026.

I'm too lazy to look, but after this and heading forward the Flames must be right close to the bottom of the league cap-wise.

Maybe you can talk Scotiabank into selling the naming rights to Mack Trucks!
