Three 2nd rounders are quality. They're not the best available picks but there's absolutely nothing wrong with loading up on 2nds.

It may be viewed that the 5 year term of Weegar's contract is a negative that is balanced by taking Maatta. Anderson doesn't have any term.
I suspect Weegar will not be worth $6.25 million when he is 37.
Taking Maatta doesn't necessarily mean the Flames get more value than they did for Anderson.

It's probably very feasible that some combination of these picks are used to move up into the later first round.

when it comes to trading away 2nds, no one could ever beat Darryl. We had a single 2nd rounder between 2004 and 2010, and that was used on Mitch Wahl.
