Wouldn't mind moving one of Hanley, Maatta, or Pachal

Is Utah tight against the cap? If they are, then I would agree that matta is needed to facilitate the deal since they won’t be able to fit Weegar into their cap structure. However, if they are not tight against the cap and could take Weegar without having to send back Matta then I would hope including Matta adds some value to the trade in Calgary’s favour. Not sure though.

I'm just really curious about the return. This doesn't seem ideal timing for a Weegar trade ... his trade value must be in the gutter right now. But who knows, if CC decides to pull the trigger now ...

I like Weegar. Too bad it didn't work out here.

Reschny, Beaudoin would have the makings of a pretty fun middle 6 C pairing, slot Joseph in up top in a year, ho boy.

5.9 million in cap space.

Would think the return is good because Conroy would be in no rush to trade Weegar I assume. There is little pressure even from fans to trade Weegar so I would think the return would have to be really good for him to even consider it.

Purely production wise I don't feel like Tij and Beaudoin have been all that different post draft.

Beaudoin took a big step offensively this year much like Tij and it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Not really, but they have to pay Schmaltz for one and will have to add a few more UFAs.

Getting rid of Maatta helps with that.

Taking on 7 back doesn’t add more value . People need to stop thinking retention and taking back salary adds anything

It’s what is required to make a deal

I would be funny if we're not waiting for Weegar to waive but Maatta, and he was just taking an afternoon nap and slept through the call.

Listening to Freidman on Sportsnet and sounds like he was given grief for being the first to report the Weegar thing.

Anyway, Weegar is a solid dman on a very good contract

He also doesn’t need to be traded now

For the flames to trade him and also picking up Matta as a salary dump, I am excited about the return. It must be good

The only thing I would presume saved Weegar's trade value this year is bidding wars on other d-men raising his stock to the point that others didn't care so much about the down season. I don't think anyone but the most out of touch would claim he isn't a good player anymore, but he's certainly had a poor year by his standard. What that looks like for other teams valuations of him I guess we'll see right away, but seems he's still being valued as a good roughly #2-3 defenseman for most teams.

Matta, if you assume he isn't toast, fits the mold of a guy you can rebuild value and get something for in a year or two. Cheapish contract if he doesn't suck.

I can't image Utah would be getting him at a discount because of his performance this season. There's no pressure to trade him right now and he's a proven top 4 guy who can put up close to 0.5 pp. If Utah wants him, they would have to offer significant value.
