I think the Finns getting Norovirus (as well as a few other teams) didn't help.
As someone who had it recently, I couldn't imagine recovering from that to play anything at a high level, hell I could barely get through a soft work day the week after, despite chugging electrolytes for days.

That’s fair. I had gastroenteritis recently and it was rough… wouldn’t want to play sports (especially at a high level) close to that time.

That call at the end that should have been 5+ for boarding/charging still bothers me. Canada were not good, but had they had that extended powerplay they likely could have at least run down the clock and maybe eked out the 1-0.
That was a bad call.
I know the IIHF and IOC wanted to open the game up, but for the women? I think they'd have been better served with IIHF reffing. Their game isn't built for this.

Correct, I'm not sorry. I'm amused. It is quite amusing that grown adults couldn't just scroll past a post.
I'll bet most of you pearl clutchers have posted strong opinions about Eilleen Gu (or any number of sports-politics topics over the years like Kaepernick/etc) without a hint of irony.
I am actually sorry that politics sometimes invade sports. But it's only because team sports invaded politics to such an absurd degree that you elect and excuse pedo-fascists.

Every thread is devolving into this nonsense.
The mod team is being quite selective on stepping in.

I don’t really understand how Cassie thought that was the right call. To me it was clear 5 and a game for boarding.
Not to mention the hook to the hands on the slo-mo breakaway.

She was a few feet from the boards and the US player took a few strides to take a run at her. Pick your goddamned poison, charging, boarding whatever...thats 5+ in any world.

Or maybe a better analogy is you go to a public pool expecting it not to be filled with #1 and #2. You get in the pool and discover it's full of #1 and #2. And then you get mocked for complaining about it.
Sure, you could have chose to not go to the pool in the first place. But that doesn't mean you were wrong for expecting the pool to be reasonably clean.

Sounds like you just mistook a waste treatment plant for a pool...

Cassie became a bit of an edge-lord when she seemed to feel the need to defend herself from accusations (pretty baseless) that she got a HNIC gig only because she was married to a Flames apparatchik. Before she headed south, it was kind of crazy how she’d twist herself into knots explaining how terrible the Flames were.
Damn shame - she was an excellent player in her day and totally knows a thing or two about ice hockey.

Damn what a heart breaker. Canada still with 5 golds in the women’s hockey all time with the USA on 3.
Crazy pulling the goalie usually has at best a 20% success rate, yet teams have gone 3/3 in the last 2 days.

I think if that was earlier in the game they probably stick with the major. But because it would have put the US on the PK for almost the rest of the game they didn't have the guts to let it stand so they lowered it to a minor.

I know. Thats what makes it BS.
It was what it was. Call it as such. She crushed that player into the boards intentionally knowing that she'd essentially get away with it. If I were a Ref I'd have thrown the goddamned book at her.
