Tough loss for sure, but I kind of thought the US outplayed Canada for the entire game. Our goalie kept us in, and almost stole it.

Indeed, many US Olympians have commented to that effect (dunno about the women's hockey team). And gotten a lot of flak for it.

This seemed like a mirror of the Canada Czechia men's game.

A respectable silver is about all you could ask for. A repeat of the preliminary game would not have been fun. Still frustrating though how poorly the Canadians handled the puck tonight. I would’ve hoped for more poise and smart puck moving from a veteran team.

I don't usually post on political stuff...but honestly not sure I agree.

If a country has a pedo rapist fascist as a president, and there are large groups of people that still support that pedo rapist fascist, then they should be reminded of that at every opportunity.

And it's not just rhetoric - Trump says these things about Greenland and Canada as the 51st state to see how much push back he gets. He's testing the waters.

So if you're American and not actively speaking out about the president, then you're on his side, and if you're on his side, then I can't support you, it's really that simple.

In terms of the players themselves, no ill will towards them at all, unless they are supporting and promoting Trump (looking at you Tkachuk brothers).

There's a reason that it's only now cropping up on the board. This stuff is unprecedented.

The very first game I put on a visor the puck rebounded off the goalies pad and directly into the visor. Talk about lucky timing.

It took a couple months after I went with full face shield to take a puck off of the mask. I'd rather not pay the price of pain and money to take a puck to the teeth.

Too bad I thought they were going to take it. At the end of the day the Americans were the better team. The Canadians just looked so disjointed. The OT was a bit hilarious with the puck decisions.

Holy hell, what's with the politics being injected into this thread? Go touch some grass, or snow, or whatever.

America is threatening our sovereignty full stop. I agree with Supermatt that this situation is unprecedented. Canadians have every right to be angry and bring politics into the equation. This is beyond the normal rivalry. What are American government is doing to the rest of the world is absolutely heinous and needs to be called out at every waking moment.

Shockingly, I can understand why a discussion about a sporting event between two countries with a currently strenuous and combative international relationship is trending towards a discussion about that current relationship and go outside.

What's with people who support Trump or Trump-like politicians ignoring the current diplomatic climate between two countries and acting like it is in no way relevant?

Couldn't get to watch the game, probably for the best. Always awful to lose to the US. Sounds like they put up a hell of a fight. The guys on 960 after were saying similar things to what posters were saying earlier- need some youth on team canada without blowing the whole thing up.
I'm trying to find a clip of the hit from behind on Ambrose I heard about. Funny part is while googling the US player who hit her (Curl-Salemme) I found multiple dirty plays from the PWHL by the player. Suspended for elbow to head, went knee on knee with another girl in another game. Dirty as hell.

They weren't playing on international ice. It was shorter than an NHL rink, and 4m narrower than international ice.

It's really not. Two teams of women, most of which very likely don't support orange man, playing the game of their lives, is what should be the focus.

IE: It's very possible to focus on the sporting event itself, rather than whatever grievances the government of said countries have with each other. Some people just can't help themselves though.

The Canadian breakaway in OT where she simply stopped skating and allowed the American to catch her, just blew me away.

I'd like to profusely apologize for disrespecting the sanctity of the nation vs nation hockey game thread. But it's hilarious how many posters who couldn't let a driveby comment about their beloved pedo-fascist leaders go by unchallenged.

I’m sure Russia recently and Nazi Germany 90 years ago also wanted political critics to shut up and focus on the beautiful purity of sport before they went and killed a bunch of people.

I understand the sentiment of wanting to talk hockey, but nobody is stopping anyone from doing that. Wanting to shut down political conversation is incredibly ignorant, though. Both can exist. You can simply talk about what you want to talk about and don’t talk about what you don’t want to talk about. You are in control of what you read and say.

Hey, I wish life was a vacuum where nothing interacted or overlapped too! Unfortunately that's not how... Well, anything works. I don't blame the American women. They were the better team. #### their country, and I hope they are doing everything they can to stop what is currently happening down there.

Just never the way it worked. Never the way it will work. What happens in the world will always affect the lens used to view it. Trying to simplify it is what you do when you know what you see makes you uncomfortable.
