There are wayyy to many players on this roster and not a ton more expiring deals. I really hope they start to clean that up.

Didn't someone mention a 3way yesterday? Maybe that's Whitecloud next?

considering how many teams are looking for a RD, it wouldn't be surprising

Disappointing that we’re devaluing our current Vegas pick.

I was just thinking about all the trades over the years with poor returns, and how there was always the hope of part of the return being “flipped” to make it reasonable, and it never happens. So while I’ll be hopeful that Whitecloud does get moved this year, I expect to be disappointed again.

Having said that, he is a decent asset, and they probably could get a good return on him if he is traded before the deadline. That would make this overall package fairly good.

But it still sucks that this is Vegas.

Sucks that Andersson couldn’t have been dead set on a team with better assets haha

Toronto would love him too. And Boston, for that matter

Ras might want to extend there, but it's possible they won't agree to his contract ask.

My guess is after all of this, he'll end up going somewhere as a rental for a late 1st and some mid prospect. Then in the off season he signs with Vegas for less than what he was rumored to be asking for from other teams. Vegas gets their guy on a lesser contract without having to give anything up in a trade.

And while we're happy we got a return for him in a rental trade, we get to ruminate over the speculated returns that were leaked during this whole process and the better prospects and picks we likely missed out on.
Woof. It's comical (and depressing?) that you basically called it note-for-note hours before the trade happened.

After Gaudreau walked to free agency, Conroy made a point that it was a learning experience and he would not let that happen with players on the last year of their deal… and he did stick to that. If they would not sign, he traded players.

After these experiences with Hanifin and Andersson, I hope he takes it as a learning experience again that, if a player is not in the long-term plans of the organization, it’s likely better to to trade them early. That means Kadri, Whitecloud and Coleman. The exact same scenario (hell.. it could even be Vegas next year) could play out with Coleman next year. It will get leaked he will only sign with 1-2 teams and the trade leverage is gone.

To be clear… I’m ok with what Conroy got under the circumstances. I just think you can remove the “with extension/without extension” stuff if you trade them at a point where there are at least two playoff runs in their contract for an acquiring team. I’d like that to be the new normal during this rebuild.

Well said. Good return in a vacuum. But he should have been traded a year ago.

We'll see what they do with Kadri and Coleman now. They only have one retention spot left, it's probably better used on Kadri.

Okay onto Kadri, Coleman, and Whitecloud (in the order of importance of moving them)

Even if you want to sell him, your D-core is a little too junior IMO. He’s the vet you keep throughout a rebuild to be on line 2 behind Parekh.

Rather sell Whitecloud, Pachal, and Hanley first.
If you can clear five and a half years of salary, you do it.

They can find another Weegar.

Maybe...I don't know. You don't see much more than stuff like a 1st, prospect, 2nd

Flames got a top 4 dman, 1st, 2nd that becomes a 1st, and a C Prospect

If have liked an A or B prospect but I don't see how this will stick out like a sore thumb. Especially since Andersson announced he wasn't extending anywhere

Time to get Kadri out of here. The guy has been checked out for months and his GAF meter is approaching Huberdeau's.

i think Coleman before Kadri is more pressing...we have plenty of wingers but not enough centres and Kadri has a longer contract.

i understand that you may feel Kadri's value tanks faster but waiting to move Coleman may impact his value more.

It may devalue the Flames 26 pick, but if they win it all I would be okay with the pick going from 26ish to 32 if it means the 28th pick is a late 1st. Really, if Andersson does chase the big contract in the summer there is no guarantee he signs with Vegas. So really losing Whitecloud and Andersson kind of increases the value of the 27 1st with SJ and Anaheim making strides now.

The Flames own pick is far more important than where the Vegas 2026 one ends up. This is the best shot at a top 3 pick this org has had since 2014.

And besides, Vegas is still maybe the 4th or 5th best team in the west.

I hope Vegas wins the cup this year.

The 2026 pick goes from high 20's to 32nd OA but then the 2028 pick jumps up 32 spots into the 1st round.
