As bummed as I am that Vegas won the Andersson sweepstakes (I hope Vegas completely implodes for 50 years), we just gave our scouting department two more picks to work with. They’ve been hitting a lot lately, that bodes well for us.
Please please please flip whitecloud for another pick, at least two thirds or a second. He’s a solid player but we simply don’t need the guy. I hope he doesn’t play a game for us. Nothing against him, just don’t let this turn into him actually being unintentionally a part of our plans for the future.
Wiebe is a magic bean, let him turn into whatever he turns into.

White Cloud is big and averages better than a hit per game for the last six seasons.
If they’re gonna play kids, they need to protect them.

Relax. You'd be selling your stock at the low, this is the low point of the competitive cycle. Think of how the team's on ice performance is going to get even worse now, further locking in a top 3 pick, and then the domino effect of the other vets who were maybe feeling ambivalent might change their minds. There's reasons to be optimistic here

I'm guessing that given Conroy's experience with Hanifin and Andersson limiting the trade returns by not extending, Coleman will be moved this year if Conroy is actually wanting to trade him. I wouldn't be opposed to keeping Coleman though as I feel he's a key vet on the team. Just don't plan to trade him next year as a pending UFA as the Flames will find themselves in the same situation they did with Rasmus and Noah.

You have to believe DAL would LOVE to get Whitecloud (and they can afford him)
He would be a huge addition for SJS too (though they may be looking more for an offensive Dman)
He would be absolutely fantastic on the Oilers, but #### them, obviously
Toronto would love him too. And Boston, for that matter

Would have definitely preferred no retention on the Andersson trade because I think that likely means it’s more unlikely both Coleman and Kadri are traded since I think both will require retention to get the deal done.

Yeah I really dont think this trade is as narrow minded as some people are letting on. Lots to help the future of the team.

I don’t mind the return, HATE that it’s Vegas.

I think that any return for Kadri because of his age and contract status will really underwhelm people. Id be impressed with anything over a middle 2nd rounder.

How much would San Jose give for Weegar?

And adding onto this, there was likely NO chance VGK was going to trade him to their rival contenders, but we sure can.
Get a decent return for him and we are definitely looking at this return differently. I just hope we don't keep him as he'll be a UFA before we are contending IMO
Edit: Actually, seeing Roko's post above... maybe keep Whitecloud and trade Weegar? That would be quite the move.

Still like the idea of keeping Weegar, he’s future captain material in my eyes.
Even if you want to sell him, do you want to sell him during a down year?
Even if you want to sell him, your D-core is a little too junior IMO. He’s the vet you keep throughout a rebuild to be on line 2 behind Parekh.
Rather sell Whitecloud, Pachal, and Hanley first.

Fully agree with you. I love Weegar. However… if Weegar meant Misa was on the table… Weegs is cost controlled and thought of very highly
That being said, Whitecloud could possibly garner a late 1st

Great thing with them both (Whitecloud/Weegar) is that they don't have to be moved this year. However, with the Ras sweepstakes done, leverage all the teams that had interest into Whitecloud/Weegar and force them to make you move one.

Weird to me the flames haven’t posted this trade yet anywhere. Maybe flipping Whitecloud now?

I doubt they had any intention of trading him at all.
It sounds like their offer was the picks and Wiebe, and it was the last minute addition of Whitecloud that made the trade happen. Flames fans won't admit it, but it's a very big add that tips this trade into the positive, IMO

If we traded Whitecloud for the prospects we wanted from one of Dal/Det/SJ that would be hilarious and awesome.
