I hope one of the other GMs blinks first and meets Conroy's price before he has to adjust his ask. Andersson's play right now is definitely helping Conroy's case.
Now that teams are no longer allowed to put trade conditions around players signing an extension, you cannot have a separate "rental" value as the player may decide to sign an extension after the trade and the previous team loses out on that value if they assume he is going to walk to UFA.
From Conroy's perspective he is trading away Andersson and the rights to negotiate with Andersson for the rest of the year. At that point it is up to the other GM to get the extension across the finish line.
I am curious what Andersson thinks his upper offers are expected to be? Does he think he is going to get $10M? Most of us would say that Andersson is better than Bouchard but Bouchard does have 11 more points right now on the season... On the other hand Dobson just got $9.5M (with RFA years included) and they have the same point total right now.
If the Sharks came in and offered him $9.5Mx8, would he sign? I think so.

Here are a few comparables, but instead of looking at the cap-hit I think it's probably better to look at the percentage of the cap it was at the time of signing.
Dobson $9.5M x 8; 9.9%Cap
Chychrun $9.0M x 8; 9.4%Cap
Reilly $7.5M x 8; 9.1%Cap
Provorov $8.5M x 7; 8.9%Cap
Dunn $7.4M x 4; 8.8%Cap
Hanifin $7.4M x 8; 8.4%Cap
Hronek $7.3M x 8; 8.2%Cap
Skjei $7.0M x 7; 8.0%Cap
Miller $7.5M x 8; 7.9%Cap
Theodore $7.4M x 7; 7.8%Cap
I think this firmly places Andersson in the 8-9% range, in a $104M cap it is a cap hit of $8.32M-$9.36M. $9.75 would probably be the top end for Andersson, while $10M+ would likely be the result of a bidding war.

I would do Coleman retained for Geekie straight up.
What am I missing with O'Reilly? His d+2numbers seem poor. Doesn't feel like much more then a throw in.
Would be happy to snag their 2028 1st.

I would agree that O’Reilly + 2nd round pick would be a fair trade… but the thing is Conroy needs an overpay for the deal to get done. I don’t think a B+ level prospect + 2nd round pick is an overpay for Coleman - that’s just the normal return he should get IMO. While Tampa (or any team) may not be willing to pay the price of a 1st round pick + B+ level prospect… I think it will take that level of overpay to get Conroy to trade Coleman. Coleman doesn’t want to leave, is signed to a good contract, is a great leader and has been one of the top 4 players on the team this year - Conroy is very unmotivated to move him right now.

O'Reilly + 2nd is essentially a 1st + 2nd
Expecting any more than that for Coleman is wishful thinking, IMO.
I mean, I'm all for it if we can get more.

Unless one has VERY close ties to management or ownership (and some may do so) it’s all garbage speculation, with no foundation in reality. Some things have been reported as factual…but WE really don’t know if it is, or not…or if it’s a story line spun to media.
Blech.I’ll go back to enjoying the lovely afternoon, the wood fire and a glass of good scotch. And probably stop reading CP’s trade threads for a bit.

That is a good way to look at it. Also worth considering the projections for the salary cap to keep going up. If the expectations are that it is currently $88M and will go up to $95.5M, $104M, and then $113.5M over the next few seasons then that could adjust Andersson's expectations / demands a fair bit.
He might then think that $10M is a bit of an overpay with today's cap ceiling but in a couple of years it is more inline with his actual value because of the rising cap. $10M is only 8.8% of the $113M cap ceiling projected for 2027-28.
I would think that $9.5M would get it done, especially if a team can give him 8 years at that number ($76M total). A 7 year contract would need to be $10.85M to get the same total number.

Oh man, that's brutal. I feel terrible for Strome even having to hear those rumors. Finally gets out of Edmonton, sees his career flourish, only to be sent back? It's like going back to jail for a crime you didnt commit

Don’t think that the Oilers have the cap space to take on Strome.

If “talking hockey” means making wild and unfounded statements (known as making $&*#@ up) then sure.

I think they might do it.
Tampa knows their window is closing and I could see them doubling down on bringing back Gourde to try to bring back Coleman too

Yup. O’Reilly is still considered to be a good prospect- I might even go 1-for-1 on that trade.
I would 100% do straight across for Geekie, and I might even add. He’s an “A” prospect at a premium position.
Not sure we get him for an aging vet, no matter how good they are.

I'd argue unless they were born in the Buffalo area, just about everyone has Buffalo on their NTC.
Sad truth about a horribly managed franchise.
