Talk to your family doctor directly about ADHD, tell them directly why you think you have it and how long. They'll go through a process, sometimes as simple as a questionnaire and depending on the rating will talk about the next step. Could be a medication, sometimes just knowing and having a diagnosis helps a person.
My hey doc to medication was about half an hour. It was a process after that to to find the right med and dosage but that's the first most important step. It's not different than any other issue. Gotta bring it up!

Thanks Titan2 and BigThief.
My "friends" doc told me..er.... them to read a specific book. Ironically although the book is excellent... the ability to actually get through the book has the anticipated result for an ADD person. Probably time to step it up. Although it's great being high-functioning, it's super frustrating too. The "smart guy who can't/won't apply themselves" comment resonates since childhood. Doesn't help mental health when compounded with several other simultaneous significant life stressors. Thankfully there's self medicating coffee and chocolate for that.

Questionnaire done and highly conclusive. downloaded link and will work through over Christmas break. Will look for ebook of Scattered Minds.

You ever come back to a thread and see a post you made and regret because you thought it might be funny at the time. Well I do that all the time.

My son is both ADD and on the spectrum, and this describes him perfectly. One of the things we had to learn well early on after he was diagnosed was how to help him manage his time and bring things into the "now" before they're actually "now"... still a work in progress
We're looking at support for his job hunt where they also help with helping him use tools to manage this for himself and other things to help with having a job which is new to him.

When my son was 8-12 we went through quite a few different meds trying different things.. we went through the same cycle of enormous hope and then not really seeing anything different quite a few times until we found the one that worked for him (Vyvanse as others have mentioned, and Intuniv though he eventually didn't need that anymore). So sometimes it is a process.
Hope you find something that helps improve things!!

I always wonder if I am possibly 'on the spectrum'. I guess if its a spectrum we are are all on it. Just where? I am just constantly scanning things and people. They don't recognize social cues but I hyper see social cues. If some guys eyebrow goes up when I am saying something I notice that and put it in the bank for later judging. Can you be on the other side of the spectrum? It's exhausting.
Our CEO pulls his phone out when this one guy starts talking. Because he thinks he's full of crap (which he is).

There probably is a thing where people are more tuned to social cues, over-tuned.. like Autism being a spectrum that's probably a spectrum too, not sure if there'd be a specific cause or if it's just normal variability where 20% of people are over-tuned.
But there are probably strategies to help manage it.

This is autism. Its not that autistic people miss social cues, its just that the 7% or so the vast majority of the population and world seem to get by on just fine don't compute well when you're also getting the other 93%. Its a sliding scale. Maybe the eyebrow thing is just something unique to you that you noticed, but if its that plus cataloging the way they adjust their posture, analyzing the timbre of the breath they take before speaking, cramming their chosen words through a decoder because everyone lies and you need things in truth form, plus plus plus plus then yea, autism.
The exhaustion you're speaking of is the mental drain of masking, where all of this is very much real and very much going on and you have to fake like its not WHILE ALSO throwing down a high level that even a neurotypical would find very challenging. In your case I'm guessing you make good dough in a situation where appearances and people skills are paramount, which in my case would be hell.

We are not all on the spectrum to one degree or another. You either are or are not Autistic, however if you have ADHD then you might also have Autism as they are best friends. They can often bring their close acquaintances anxiety, and depression too.

I would suggest this is a piece of the ADD. Just read about it in the book that y'all must think I am getting paid for. Part of ADD is being hyper-sensitive to social cues as being hyper-alert to the emotions and reactions of everyone around you because you are always anticipating a negative reaction, because that is how you grew up.

Quick google search "how many people are autistic" shows only 1-2% of the global population, but then goes on to mention an increased awareness in recent years. Its google, its fast, but its an interesting look.

1. because it is darkly funny. I would make the same joke. My buddy says he pays $0.25 for vet insurance, the cost of a .22 shell. Holy #### dude.
2. because you are feeling down. When I am doing well I hardly think of that. When I am not, it springs to mind far too often in the face of the most basic challenges. I can't open the peanut butter, #### I should kill myself.
That's all I got on that.

A joke? Or the assessment? Or the book? Or the workbook? A B, and C make sense. If B it is only like one page. Try again.
