Talk to your family doctor directly about ADHD, tell them directly why you think you have it and how long. They'll go through a process, sometimes as simple as a questionnaire and depending on the rating will talk about the next step. Could be a medication, sometimes just knowing and having a diagnosis helps a person.

My hey doc to medication was about half an hour. It was a process after that to to find the right med and dosage but that's the first most important step. It's not different than any other issue. Gotta bring it up!

Thanks Titan2 and BigThief.
My "friends" doc told me..er.... them to read a specific book. Ironically although the book is excellent... the ability to actually get through the book has the anticipated result for an ADD person. Probably time to step it up. Although it's great being high-functioning, it's super frustrating too. The "smart guy who can't/won't apply themselves" comment resonates since childhood. Doesn't help mental health when compounded with several other simultaneous significant life stressors. Thankfully there's self medicating coffee and chocolate for that.

Here is a link to the actual ADHD assessment I got from my doctor:

Here is also a link

Finally, the book Scattered Minds

Best of luck and feel free to ask any questions here or pm me.

Thanks for the extra info.
The emotions part got drowned and buried in chocolate and exercise; instead of beer resorted to wine gums and bubble tea; too late for "young" depending on your idea of young.

Questionnaire done and highly conclusive. downloaded link and will work through over Christmas break. Will look for ebook of Scattered Minds.

I couldn’t get through it. Started to get annoyed. Probably means I failed…..or passed I guess.

You ever come back to a thread and see a post you made and regret because you thought it might be funny at the time. Well I do that all the time.

We're looking at support for his job hunt where they also help with helping him use tools to manage this for himself and other things to help with having a job which is new to him.

When my son was 8-12 we went through quite a few different meds trying different things.. we went through the same cycle of enormous hope and then not really seeing anything different quite a few times until we found the one that worked for him (Vyvanse as others have mentioned, and Intuniv though he eventually didn't need that anymore). So sometimes it is a process.

Hope you find something that helps improve things!!
