This first season of Rachel Maddow's Ultra is a must listen to in the current era we're in. The Authoritarian movement, Christian Nationalism and the seeds that the Nazi's sewed in America prior to and during WW2 has never went away. Much like the civil war where the Confederates weren't punished for treason and the losers were allowed to keep their flag and celebrate what losers they are the seditionists in America were never punished after WW2. That treasonist nature has never went away. "The South will rise again!" type bull####.
Germany stomped out Nazi symbolism at the end of the war and it still takes celebrating national socialism as a serious crime to this day. America loves to suggest they need to move on and heal. It's not the guns. Montana has the most guns per people and has next to no mass shootings. It's a breakdown in society, and it's probably only going to get worse.
Montana might be low on the mass shootings but they are 6th in the nation for gun violence per capita. on average over 500 people are shot every year in Montana and about half die.
The state of Montana has a population well less than the city of Calgary which averages about 30 shootings a year and less than half die.
Do the math but keep telling yourself "It's not the guns"

It's not the guns. Montana has the most guns per people and has next to no mass shootings. It's a breakdown in society, and it's probably only going to get worse.
there's no real difference demographically even culturally between the US, Canada and the UK except the guns, it's absolutely the guns, the more guns a country has the more shootings
I run a high level foster home in Vancouver and have done for decades in arguebly the gang capital of Canada, I almost never deal with guns, my house got shot up once (one of the kids took a front and then smoked the weed instead of selling it), with a .22! what kind of drug dealer is restricted to using a 22 ffs
I have talked to my counterparts in the US, they don't work with gang kids because it's too dangerous

It's not just the guns. Some countries, like Finland, cam have a fairly high guns per capita with very little gun violence.
However. we have a lot of restrictions on where and how you can store, carry and use a gun, both legal and cultural.
Also, most of the male population here go through basic military training and are taught to use and respect guns. We know guns are for shooting Russians with imperialist fantasies and hunting, not for pretending you're a big man.
Americans however are NOT one of those rare populations which can handle having guns around.

When you look at maps showing the rate of gun ownership in the individual US states vs gun violence per capita, they look virtually identical.
More guns equal more gun violence which makes a lot of sense. Not sure why anyone would think otherwise.

Montana typically has less homicides than Saskatchewan. "Gun violence" includes suicides. Montana is a poor state and has a large Native population who unfortunately have a very high suicide rate.
