Sounds like Cole Reschny, Henry Mews and Zayne Parekh will all be invited to the Hockey Canada World Junior Summer Showcase. Jacob Battaglia didn't get an invite.

I am excited to see Hoskins too - that "off the board" pick last season (in quotes because there is no board!). He was injured for development camp last season IIRC.
How did he look?

I will second this and add some remarks on the skating
I watched some of the power skating where Potter, Reschny and King were on the rink with Danielle Fujita (and earlier Stockselius and Lane)
Potter is a very good skater.
She had a drill where they skated around the center circle, transitioning from forward to backward at 6, 9 and 12 o clock. At speed, these transitions happen very quickly.
Another drill transitioning from a quick slalom on one side to a Crosby on the other, switching back and forth down the ice, and then doing it with the puck
They also did a drill where you start on the blue line at the boards, skate around the dots in the far neutral zone and come in, along the boards in the neutral zone At the dot before you cross the line, c cut to a Crosby, turning around facing the far zone (there was a stick handling obstacle with a short stick on pucks on either end just inside the zone to represent the D) , then pivoting around the D to skate forward, drive around and shoot (does that make sense? So basically cutting from the boards in to the middle but transitioning so you are backwards moving laterally before turning to drive the net)
Three drills that looked straightforward but actually would be pretty challenging to execute. Kind of brilliant
Out of all of these guys, Potter did not seem to struggle, he pretty much nailed them down pretty quickly. Reschny was good but you saw him consciously working on some details
The other guys all did ok but you could see they needed to get some reps to get it right and some were a bit less smooth (she was talking to them about where to have their weight when, etc)
But yes, Potter distinctly stood out in the power skating piece

Probably would be one of:
Sharks: Dickinson, Misa, Askarov (if not graduated). I assume Smith is considered graduated.
Montreal: Demidov, Reinbacher, Fowler, Hage. not having a 1st this year hurts them though, but it's an impressive group.
Chicago: Frondell, Levshunov, Korchinski. Drops off after that.
Might be Utah actually: Iginla, Simashev, But, and now you add Desnoyers
I think overall though it's still San Jose.
Calgary was 13th last year in Wheeler's ranking. And Wofl/Coronato already were considered graduated. So you take that group, led by Parekh who probably has risen in the rakings himself since, and add this year's draft, they could now be in the top 10. I will guess #9.
|
YouTuber Graviteh, who is one of the better prospect you tube guys, has the Flame at 5 post draft
He’s got Anaheim (who I was dumb to overlook above), Chicago, Montreal and San Jose ahead of Calgary
Not bad

I was on the other side of the stadium and you could tell he was massive from that far away.
