Welcome to the top 5 Alvin or Rutherford. Who runs that team?
It HAS to still be Jim Benning. HAS to be.

Every decision by the Canucks makes me think they are going after a bottom 5 finish this year. They must want McKenna really bad.

This keeps getting parroted around but what contending team, presumably with a good room and chemistry, is going to spend a 2nd round pick to potentially poison pill their room?

Pretty brutal for Vancouver. Kane is broken down and 34 before next season. Not sure why Vancouver goes out to help one of their biggest rivals with cap issues?

The other major risk is that this just sends the wrong message to the players in Vancouver and Hughes and/or Pettersson demand out. It sounds like they are letting P. But he doesn’t have to change . In fact - his first season with a new club is always his best . He doesn’t cause drama , he STFU and just goes and plays hockey and produces

It’s after he has a long term contract his true self starts showing

I don’t think Kane is a changed man . I think Kane will be happy playing back
Home , excited for a new start , and very motivated to earn another contract

That’s fine for a 1 year commitment

I can understand the idea of the Canucks bringing in the player based on what can possibly to on the ice considering the acquisition cost. However after the past few seasons the organization really should be prioritizing higher character players as this guy still hasn't found a locker room where he's fit.

We fixed our toxic dressing room by moving out one of the guys that didn't get along with our star player. Now we want to bring in a guy that hasn't gotten along with anyone on 4 other teams....makes sense ?

Kane going to an already rumored to be terrible locker room is delicious
Kane trying to prove himself as anything other than a real man of genius sponsors by BUD and any online gambling gig .....this is hilarious

ENG will have to work hard to replace this DB but I'm sure they'll manage.

Oilers free up cap space, but they also lose one of their only productive secondary forwards who is actually tailored to playoff hockey (even if he takes way too many stupid penalties). They'll probably end up bringing in someone even worse to replace him.

Rejoice!
Fair enough. The Oilers do lose their 5th best scoring forward from the playoffs. The other 3 useful second scorers were 33 year old Hyman, 40 year old Perry, and 32 year old Nuge.

There also aren't an excess of surefire #1 goalies, even if the Oilers do have the space. Is the plan now throw money at Lehner and hope for the best?

Hasn't Kane already gotten himself into trouble "back home"? If he already has a network of vices set up in Vancouver, things could go downhill there quicker.

If there is something worse, it would be a team signing Kane to a long term deal at age 35.

Edmonton is probably just clearing space for the end of the WJC trial. They'll sign all of them for league min to give them a chance to rebuild their value. I wish I was joking.

And free agency will not be much of an option for them as it is still tight.

The teams that have cap issues right now, there best option is trades with RS. Problem with a lot of these teams is having assets to make those moves and those players will cost more and have short term deals.

Gibson to Edmonton?
