What a brutal trade for Vancouver. No cluebwhat they're doing

See this is funny from both angles.

Canucks inexplicably trade an asset for a proven toxic human who makes too much money and will add yet another bizarre dimension to their already chaotic locker room. Utterly perplexing from their end.

Oilers free up cap space, but they also lose one of their only productive secondary forwards who is actually tailored to playoff hockey (even if he takes way too many stupid penalties). They'll probably end up bringing in someone even worse to replace him.

Rejoice!

I guess that’s the cap space the oilers need for Gibson

The Canucks will flip him at the deadline for a bigger return. Not a bad move from an asset management point of view but it’s still funny on paper

He’s exactly the type of player who thrives when he wants to - and he wants to get another big contract

He can either by flipped at the deadline for most likely more then the canucks paid as a rental if Van does poorly or helps them be good

Van only has to deal with him for 1 year (or until trade deadline ) and worse case you just tell him to F off and lose a mid pick
Dude is turning 34. He's just not as good at hockey as he once was. He's more of a .5-.6ish PPG player now. With cap inflation, his contract is fine.

The issue is he's a huge gamble due to his attitude and off ice issues. The Canucks just sold low on JT Miller to clear up locker room issues. So they turn around and bring in one of the biggest D-bags in the league. A repeat offender when it comes to attitude and locker room issues.

Paying to receive cap dumps? Hard pass.

From Vancouver's perspective there is some risk.

But based on his playoff this past season, and him probably playing for a contract, I wouldn't doubt if he could get you a 2nd at the deadline.

I actually don't hate the asset for Vancouver, what I don't like is them helping a division rival clear out $5.1M without making them pay for it

Is it a huge gamble though ? If he comes in and is a problem you cut him and you’re out a 4th

If he shuts up and plays hard he’s easily worth a 2nd at the deadline

He doesn’t have to behave for multiple seasons .

As I said he will be extremely motivated to STFU and earn another contract

I'm not mad. I'm not even disappointed.

I'm too confused to have these feelings yet. You took on a guy who spends so much time hurt, just missed all of last year, is known for having a dog #### attitude and threw a life preserver to a divisional rival in the process?

Wat.

All I can think of is that the chipmunk was unhappy at the v=ng thread constantly slipping to the second page and had to fix that.

I guess the Canucks decided they need someone else around to torment Elias Petterson from within the room after all.

Nope. Not worth it to get a rival team out of cap constraints, while injecting an already unbalanced locker room with a 34 year old, stage 4 locker room cancer.
