Edmonton and Dallas wrapped up their series first so it makes total sense that they got the extra days off instead of Florida.

Exactly.
Anybody who says 'cheer for a canadian team' is a casual hockey fan. That's not an insult, like somebody said earlier if you're not passionate about one Canadian team that's fine. Everyone has their own level of interest and passion in hockey. I have zero interest in watching baseball and would rather watch paint dry, but if the blue jays were in the world series I'd say 'I hope they win it'. Probably a bad example as there is currently one Canadian team, but back in the Expos/Blue Jays days I'd cheer for either. That makes me a casual bandwagon fan. Back in those days I wouldn't go to a hardcore expos fan and tell them they should cheer for Toronto because they are canadian.

At my work I'm definitely outspoken about how much I hate the oilers and am a diehard flames fan, to which some say 'I'd like a canadian team to win. Wait, who's left in the playoffs again?'. They actually didn't know so are cheering for the oilers. Casual fan. That's fine. Just don't ask a loyal flames fan to 'cheer for a canadian team'. Especially on a calgary flames fan site.

My teams are:

1. The Flames
2. Anyone but the Oilers
3. Anyone but the Leafs
4. Anyone but the Canucks

Sorry, I don't cheer for Canadian teams. I'd be fine if the Jets or Senators won, but I'd prefer the Panthers or Stars to them as well lol.

Yeah, pretty much this.

And don't frame it as "growing up" that we would dispose of a decades-long rivalry to join hands with a team of scumbags and criminals that essentially broke the lottery system.

Flames fan or not, I'd pick every single other option over Satan's horse. Not choosing the Oilers is a pretty mature decision in itself.

Casual fans who get behind them just aren't in the loop enough to understand how abhorrent the organization is to know better, and that's their excuse.

On one hand it's nice to see one of the greats like Gretzky still involved in the game and limelight as so many high profile NHL players retire and disappear compared to asy NFL or NBA where a lot of the greats stick around the game and/or work in the media. It's just such a shame how out of it he looks a lot of the time. Also what's going on with the right side of his face? Looks like a growth forming and some scars.

It is probably from all the drinking, it takes its toll. You have to wonder if he is an alcoholic at this point, I have yet to see him sober. This along with his walking around in a MAGA hat he really is a dbag.

You look at a Michael Jordan and at least he is in the open with his gambling, drinking etc.

The Flames have two main rivals, Oilers and Canucks, and a few secondary rivals that change from era to era. The Oilers are the main rival of course.

I just can't wrap my head around people who would actually cheer for their eternal rival in the playoffs???

Yeah, my wife falls into the whole rooting for a Canadian team thing. She knows how much I hate the Oilers, but she doesn't get it. She isn't hockey illiterate by any means, but she wasn't really a fan of a team until I met her. Which is fine, I'm not going to tell her how to approach being a fan or who to root for as long as she enjoys it how she wants.

It just kind of sucks because the custody battle could get ugly.

Casual fans can cheer for the Grease Pigs because those fans see it as cheering for Canadian, that's fine, it's their right. But in no shape or form they should tell or insist on other fans that those fans should cheer for the Grease Pigs, if they do not cheer for and they are not Canadian.

That said....
