I do wonder if the Sharks are only willing to trade down to the Flames if they can manage another partner in the top 6-10. Perhaps they find value in drafting the other Eklund.

I would hands down do Andersson + 18 + 22–32 for a shot at Shaefer/Misa. Sharks could use those two picks to move up in the top 10.

Shaefer and Parekh as a future pairing would be awesome or Misa for the Misa brothers.

Doesn’t matter, Smith is going no where.

Or they draft the player they think is elite?

Of course, or, they could find value in knowing Eklund isn’t a top 5 pick (likely) and can trade down to grab someone like Andersson. Even if he didn’t re-sign they could flip him for another great asset.

Sharks have the Stars 1st this year as well, which will be somewhere late in the round.

TIL

We can't package our two 1st for a top ten pick but if we send them to SJ they can.

And

Anderson will only get a great asset if we trade him to another team that can flip him at the TDL.

I think a closer deal for Razz with SJ is Dallas 1st and Bystedt. With some fine tuning with futures. Maybe even Vlads rights thrown in or something.

Andersson to SJ for a ‘26 1st round pick (higher pick between SJ and Edm), ‘25 second round pick (Senators), ‘26 second round pick (Av’s).

Maybe the Flames add a third?

Edit: higher as in all likelihood Edmonton’s pick.

I’d do the San Jose 26 1st and a 2ns for Andersson. Gives us 3 lottery calls for McKenna

Doubt SJ moves their own pick for Andersson. Especially if there’s even a shred of belief that they still would be a lottery team.

Interesting that someone who would probably go apoplectic at the mere suggestion the Flames trade their ‘26 first think another team, who has a pretty good shot at being a lottery team themselves, would trade their’s for Rasmus Andersson.

I would add to that the learning that the Flames can only make a trade if we include one of Wolf or Parekh. No other asset the team has holds any value, except Kadri but only because he has a NMC that prevents the trade.

Andersson might have negative value the way some of the people around here keep going.

Also, even though this is deemed to be a weaker draft, and some teams are open to moving their picks, the value is essentially your entire depth chart for a pick.

SJS isn't going to move their pick, just no need to.
They'll get an NHL ready player at 2.

Maybe in a blockbuster move, but Andersson isn't that.

So we have recent rumours of impending Wolf and Bahl extensions. Zary I believe was also in the works but there was a suggestion (can't remember if it was Sec/Royle or Francis) that his injuries might have caused a bit of a restructuring.

The more years the better for all these young guys. Flames will have cap space to burn for the next 3 years, if extra years get you a lower AAV in the back half of the contract I hope they can get those years.

It was me, I still think Zary get's extended but I'm not sure he's getting a 7 year deal. Rumblings had it coming in somewhere near Matty's AAV.

Extra years likely increases the AAV, as it covers more UFA years.

With our wing depth and the emergence of Klapka, I am firm on the idea of trading Pospisil to the highest bidder, or even packaging him with Andersson to get a quality player. The player that continues to come to mind is Byram for example. He would be a good LD guy to sign for 8 years. Have a top 4 of Byram - Weegs and Bahl - Parekh. Force Brzu to take Weegar’s spot away down the road.

I'm a huge Pospisil fan, and would be pretty disappointed if we traded him. He is a better player than what he showed last year. Injuries, a lack of a defined role, and the coaching staff raining him in were the reasons he wasn't as effective.

His speed creates space for his linemates, I think there's more offense there, and that he will be a much more effective agitator next year.

As far as D go, Gavrikov makes so much sense if he isn't staying in LA. Orlov is another decent option. Other than that I wonder if Siegenthaler, Sanheim, or York could be had with assets obtained from an Andersson trade. Kuznetsov is going to take the 3LD spot in training camp.
