We see vote splitting really mess things up in municipal elections as well. You have two similar candidates that align with the views of the majority, and they split votes and someone representing 30% of the people squeaks in.
I prefer MMP, but I'd settle for STV or run-off elections.

TBF, a majority of Canadians voted for a left of centre party.

So how do we reform it? I know Australia (I think) apportions seats by popular vote

Yeah, that's generally what I'm in favour of. It's what most EU countries do as well.

There are obviously downsides to PR, but I think it helps to de-polarize things a bit because people tend to feel like their vote actually counts.

Without NDP involved it would have been a runaway for Hogan.

I think PP wins his seat with the early vote coming out in favour of him late.

And I hope both the NNP and Bloc hold the balance of power.

We will see tomorrow.

Looks like Greg McLean will be re-elected in Calgary Centre. As far as conservatives go, he's not bad. Consistently pro-choice and pro-LGBT. I didn't vote for him but I'm not upset to see him continue.

So it's probably better to almost never have a majority government?

Because I think a majority liberal government this time would not be a bad thing

Guy on CBC thinks it might end up with 170 or so seats for the liberals.

Can more conservatives take these positions and be relatively normal, sensible people on social issues?

Your party might be a hit if you just reined in the #####y human aspects and regressive thinking. Too bad.

Greg is the only reason I never voted Liberal.

His voting record aligns with my beliefs. He is also very quick to respond to any correspondence you send his way, either by e-mail or a phone call.

In the end, I voted for the man and not the party.
