The only time it could be a problem would be if a game was airing nationally on a Sportsnet channel you don't subscribe to. I know this was a problem when Sportsnet One first launched because the basic cable package didn't include SN1, so a lot of people couldn't watch games that were on SN1. This can also be a problem in hotels, which often have a limited channel selection.
It definitely is exactly as Enoch describes. Try watching a Flames game in BC.

No. I have all Sportsnet channels. National games are fine. Games with 2 US teams are fine. Regional games with other Cdn teams (other than the Oilers) are blacked out.

How are you watching the US games? SN Premium or Centre Ice? Either way, Canadian out-of-market games should be available the same way.

Sportsnet has a game finder on their website https://support.sportsnetplus.ca/hc/...HL-Game-Finder, and it shows both the Montreal and Ottawa games tomorrow as being available on SN Premium and Centre Ice (they are TSN regional games). If they're being blacked out, something is getting messed up somewhere along the way because they should certainly be available to you.

To clarify, the current deal was $5.2 Billion USD over 12 years. At the time (2013) NHL revenue was $3.3 to $3.7 Billion depending if you look at 2012-2013 or 2013-2014.

The new deal is for $7.7 Billion USD. NHL revenue is projected to be $6.6 Billion.

Are there NHL regional blackouts in Sportsnet+?

Yes, NHL regional blackouts affect NHL programming on Sportsnet+.

What are NHL Regional Blackouts?

Regional Restrictions (aka Blackouts) are a mandate of the NHL. All 32 teams in the league have their own designated broadcast region, where only viewers who live in that region are able to watch these games on their local sports channel/streamer. In order to watch these regionally broadcast games when you live “out of market” (ie, when you live outside of that region), you’ll need to subscribe to a package such as Sportsnet+ Premium or NHL Centre Ice (through a TV Service Provider).
Quote:
Sportsnet+ Premium: Subscribers receive out-of-market hockey as part of their subscription. This means that they are able to stream over 1,000 NHL games during the regular season. Regional blackout restrictions apply.

Oh wonderful. Another 12 years of azz broadcasting, when Prime just showed us all what real broadcasting is.

Hey Sportsnet, maybe get a effing clue and fix your product

TSN is a vastly superior broadcast compared to Sportsnet. I will admit that I have not seen the Amazon broadcast yet but people do discussing it being high quality. Typical Canadian low grade stuff from our titans of business I guess

One issue I have noticed is the shocking low amount of bars/pubs that actually put the national broadcast on for Monday's. You don't really see commercial spots doing broadcasts on Prime. The Flames don't have a lot of Monday nights and aren't a big national draw but has anybody found the other markets getting more exposure in bars?

I get that I can watch it at home but I enjoy going out. I do wonder if this broadcast deal continues the Amazon sublicense deal. I get that it's good for Rogers but I still want to be able to watch the games on cable/ non app based platforms as I find the quality better.

Bummer.

I'll always appreciate sportsnet for beginning to televise every Flames game back in the day. Long gone are the handful of games on 2&7, the odd HNIC game, or, *shudder* flames ppv. But seriously if the NHL wants to continue to improve their product why are they falling back on the status quo. The Sportsnet broadcasts are terrible from a talent and production standpoint. But I guess at the end of the day. Money talks. Between this, the American deals, and getting a new franchise every 2nd year. They're getting money hand over fist regardless of quality.
