If Bennett is taking 8 I can’t see Florida walking away. He only leaves if someone offers something crazy.

Depends totally on the term. Five years, sure. Eight, not a chance.

Not chance meaning Florida doesn’t want to do that or you?

Bennett long term is crazy. He's simply not skilled enough to get a long term deal. Plus his style will inevitably not end will for that length. I don't think he'll want to be with Treliving again. He found a new footing in Florida and probably wants to keep the momentum going with a fresh start. I could see Buffalo or Montreal paying big money for a guy like him. Even Lou on the Island. There will be a big market but it'll be a bad move to give out anything beyond 5 years IMO.

I can't see Florida giving him eight years in any realistic scenario. He'll be 29 when the new deal kicks in and he already has trouble staying healthy.

Not that I disagree that its not a good idea but someine will 100% give him 7 if thats his priority.

I could see both Edmonton and Toronto in a bidding war for him.

Edmonton doesn’t have the cap space. They need to pay cross eyes 12M to get bodied nightly in embarrassing fashion.

Maybe. But the element Bennett brings to the game is something the Leafs have lacked for years. And he’s proven he can complement elite linemates.
No doubt the contract Bennett signs will look bad in four years. But the Leafs’ window is now, and they’re not worried about 4+ seasons down the road.

I'd have no issues Flames paying big $$ to bring Marner in.

Make Marner a huge offer...even if he doesn't come here it probably makes Brad or someone else pay more than they would have.
Marner is legit, Leafs best forward IMO

Haha that’s exactly what I said! Just without contract details

Yeah, the 4 Nations tourney sold me.
Game winning goal against Sweden in OT. Then makes two perfect set ups to help Canada overcome the US in the final game.
The way he bought Sam Bennett time and space in a game where an elite US defense was giving them very little of it was outstanding.
If we could get it done, we'll need our shooters to be shooters with guys like Huberdeau and Marner in the fold. With set up guys that reliable, we'll need players like Coronato and Sharangovich to be ready to wire it whenever they're in the o-zone.

Stay away from all of the big name ufa's this Summer, we are not there yet, and we have young players that are going to need extensions soon. I know have a lot of cap space but as posted before, that can get eaten up pretty quickly with the new deals.
Keep drafting, developing, trade away any excess for more picks, then go for the ufa's to get you over the line, not now.

Marner is an excellent complimentary piece. But asking him to be the star that carries the team in the playoffs is a tall ask. He plays great with other great players. Here is just see frustration with not having a star player to work with and him needing to step it up. I’d pass at this point. They need to draft well and go from there.

I agree that Marner probably isn't the type to be "the" guy for a team. But it's insane that he's 6th among NHLers and 24th against an all-time list in points/game production and we call him complementary.
But yeah, without Matthews and others on the leafs, he probably has more ordinary numbers.
Nevertheless he has elite skill and the Flames have none of that so it would be foolish to decline the opportunity to add that without surrendering an asset.

I would love to get Marner, but his production is bound to decrease on this team, and I can easily see him becoming the new whipping boy- especially in the playoffs.
